Default 1,500pt Ultras, again.

Bold units are ones I've purchased and built, and thus want to keep.

HQ:
Sicarius
-200pts.

Chaplain:
Bolt Pistol.
Digital Weapons.
Jump Pack.
-125pts

Elites:
Sternguard:
1 Veteran with Bolter & Power Fist.
1 Veteran with Combi Bolter-Plasma.
3 Veterans.
-155pts.

Dreadnought:
TL Lascannon.
Missile Launcher.
-145pts

Troops:
Tactical Squad:
Veteran Sergeant Bolter with Power Fist.
Plasmagun.
Missile Launcher.
7 Marines with Bolters.
-205pts.

Tactical Squad:
Veteran Sergeant Bolter with Power Fist.
Plasmagun.
Missile Launcher.
7 Marines with Bolters.
-205pts.

Scout Squad:
Telion.
1 Scout with Heavy Bolter.
4 Scouts with Sniper Rifles.
4 Scouts with Bolters.
Squad has Camo Cloaks.
-240pts.

Fast Attack:
Assault Squad:
Veteran with a Pair of Lightning Claws & Meltabombs.
9 Assault Marines.
-225pts.

Total: 1,500pts.

My list has been revised due to several lessons learned in play. Specifically;
  • The Vanguard Veterans have failed me at every turn. They have to go.
  • Without the Vanguard, the Drop Pod is far less valuable... and the Sternguard actually did very well when deployed as footsloggers.
  • My Tac Squads struggled when they got caught in Assault. Power Fists should help there.

So, basic concepts of the list are thus:
  • Scouts, along with one Tac Squad (thanks to Sicarius) use Scouts to advance up.
  • The Assault Squad can advance at speed, accompanied by the Chaplain.
  • The second Tac Squad (or the 'Heavy Weapon teams' if Combat Squads are employed) hang back to give covering fire.
  • Sicarius, the Sternguard and the Dread (plus the second 'Plasma team' if Combat Squads are employed) advance as a second wave.
  • Chaplain will seek to break off and join whatever unit needs him most. I'll especially focus on trying to get him into the Sternguard unit if / when they charge, as Sicarius should also be with them.

In my opinion the dreadnought is an expensive target with no other armoured vehicles or Terminators. You should spend the points on a Master of the Forge with a conversion beamer to hang out with the scouts, and/or upgrade your missile launchers to lascannons. Also get combi-meltas on the Sternguard, as your list is lacking anti-tank. Maybe get Sister of Battle allies for cheap meltaguns?

True... but he's built and painted, so he stays. :P

Which is a HQ choice. Both are taken.

Something I've already considered, but I'd need points from somewhere.

No. That isn't their role; all my playtesting has shown they don't need it. I have found the Plasma to be more useful to me.

Not an option. If it isn't in the codex, I won't field it.

I love your list, infact, I even copied your Tactical Squad setup.

Another tack is to drop the chaplain, assault squad and Sicarius for some combination of a cheaper captain, master of the forge, two cheap predators, Rhinos for your tactical squads, maybe a land speeder or attack bikes with multi-meltas, or another dreadnought with a multi-melta.

If you are dead set on Sicarius, you should at least get a Rhino for your tactical squad so that they can make a 12" scout move in their Rhino (which can get them in position to threaten something dangerous). Assault marines fit better in a Shrike list in my humble opinion.

Just curious, but how did your playtesting games turn out?

Original list had two wins (one in under half an hour), a loss due to lack of scoring.

This list with Vanguard Veterans and a second Dread lost once and drew once, because the Vanguard never showed up.

What kind of lists did you win and lose against?

Won against Necrons and Mech-Tau (30 mins)

Lost against the same Mech-Tau.

Lost against static Salamanders (not He'stan).

Drew against Mech-Marines with Lysander.

Overall, army lacked majorly in assault ability... because it never arrived before Turn 5.
