Default Starting army, please review

Looking into starting up a space marine (vanilla for the moment) army.

Got the AoBR set, now trying to figure out what else to buy, thinking about the following:

HQ

Chapter Master
bolt Pistol & Chain sword

TROOPS

Tactical Squad x10
7 marines with Boltguns
1 with Flamer
1 with Missile Launcher
1 SGT with boltgun & powerfist

Tactical Squad x10
7 marines with Boltguns
1 with Flamer
1 with Missile Launcher
1 SGT with boltgun & powerfist

ELITES

Venerable Dreadnaught

Assault Terminator Squad x10
5 With Lightning Claws
5 with Thunderhammer & Combat shield

Stern Guard Veteran Squad x5
Sternguard replaces Boltgun with Lascannon
Sternguard replaces Boltgun with Lascannon
Sternguard replaces Boltgun with Storm bolter
Sternguard replaces Boltgun with Storm bolter
Sgt replaces boltgun with power fist

Dedicated Transport

Rhino x2 (Tac Squads)
Drop Pod x2 (for the Termies)

FAST ATTACK
Space Marine Bike Squad (1 sgt & 2 bikes)

The following are things I thought about replacing the bikes with:
1. Minimum size Tactical squad (can never have too many scoring units)

2. Scout squad with a teleport homer

3. A Librarian (this would put me at 1505, but we're lax in our games up to about 10-15 points)

Thanks for your help!

interesting idea's, I recomend trying them on vassal. you wont need teleport homer if termi's are in drop pods however there is some points that can be opened up if you go with the scout idea. bikes need to be in bigger squads then 3 to be useful but can be fun if used correctly. a speeder might be more up your alley if you want that fast attack for a few points and they would go well with the scout squad and teleport homer.
IMHO of course.

Vassal?

Ok, here's the updated one.
(basically nixed the scout squad, and upgraded the bikes to have both anti tank and anti infantry plus a few more in the squad at the expense of 'venerable' for the dreadnaught)

HQ

Chapter Master
bolt Pistol & Chain sword

TROOPS

Tactical Squad x10
7 marines with Boltguns
1 with Flamer
1 with Missile Launcher
1 SGT with boltgun & powerfist

ELITES

Dreadnaught

Assault Terminator Squad x10
5 With Lightning Claws
5 with Thunderhammer & Combat shield

Stern Guard Veteran Squad x5
Sternguard replaces Boltgun with Lascannon
Sternguard replaces Boltgun with Lascannon
Sternguard replaces Boltgun with Storm bolter
Sternguard replaces Boltgun with Storm bolter
Sgt replaces boltgun with power fist

Dedicated Transport

Rhino x2 (Tac Squads)
Drop Pod x2 (for the Termies)

Fast Attack
Land Speeder Squadron x2

Land Speeder Storm
(or I can swap this for another in the first Land speeder squad if the jamming beacon doesn't work for me)

Thanks for the help, I didn't even think about the double coverage with drop pods and the teleport homer.

10 more views, no more comments?

Does that mean my list is perfect and beyond reproach or that its so bad no one wants to take the time to correct it.

I bet its the latter.

even if you're not an expert, feel free to share any ideas you might have, or has anyone played a similar list? How did it fare?

Well I see two things wrong with this list. First the termies cannot take drop pods. Second you have the sterngaurd outfitted horribly. The advantage of sterngaurd is their special rounds and you don't have a single guy with a regular bolter

I think I got confused on Sternguard versus Devestator squad, you're right.

Termies can't take drop pods? I really thought they could.....hmm....you're totally right, thanks for the correction.

Remove:
SternGuard Squad

Remove: Drop Pods

Add
Devestator Squad (5 man)
2 Missile Launchers, 1 Multi-Melta, 1 Plasma Cannon

Add
Scout Squad (all 5 with bolt pistol and combat blade)
+Teleport Homer

Thoughts?

Greetings cheaterbane, I see you need a bit of feedback to your list.

I'd go with a Captain instead, they've both got the same stats, and the Captain is slightly cheaper, maybe you could use those points else where?

Good standard squad outfit.

Bit expensive, I'd go with the squad of five, it'll save up points.

What happened here eh? :P I'd get rid of the Storm Bolters & Lascannons, waste of points IMO. These guys should be taking on other units, not Vehicles, leave them to the Heavy Support.

The Terminators cannot have Drop Pods as Transport, their only Dedicated Transport is the Land Raider (all variants) But keep the Rhinos.

Have a full squadron of three, upgrade one to a Typhoon, and the other two to Tornados, then you've got a fast hitting squadron, which can deal with Troops, and Vehicles.

To be fair, this is a waste of points, you could focus instead on Heavy Support, i.e. a Devastator Squad, or a Predator.

I'd give this a think, and re-do a list, perhaps you're new to Space Marines? If so, please ask any questions you have, me and my fellow Brothers will be glad to help you with this list.

New in general, not just to space marines.

Yeah I swapped out the Sternguard with a Dev squad, I just mixed them up in my head.

Thanks for the help I think I made some revisions to it earlier, let me know what you think.

again, I cannot say thanks enough for the help!

You're slightly lacking anti-tank in your list, I recommend removing the Plasma Cannon, and in it's place, add another Missile Launcher (They're good vs Infantry as well as Vehicles!)

Hmm, have you thought of taking Scouts with Snipers and a Missile Launcher? Then you can pick off the enemies IC's as well as Infantry and Vehicles. Keep the Teleport Homer for the Terminators.
