Default 500 Points, Starting Marines

Hey all,

I have a friend who collect Space Marines. He's been looking at going to 1,000 or 1,500 points, and together we've thought up a lot of backstory and chosen traits, and more. I came up with a list for him, and I wondered what y'all thought of it. This is mostly a friendly list, not competitive, but I'd still like to know it's effectiveness.

Again, it's not competitive, and more fluffy. As the army grows to 1,000 points it will match the chapter's fluff even better, as the points will be available to spend on the abilities given from the Traits we've chosen. Some backstory:

The Barren Sentries are a secretive chapter, only allying with other forces of the Imperium under the direst of circumstances. Their homeworld on the galaxy's Eastern plane was destroyed by the encroaching Tyranid menace, and the chapter now crusades across the stars searching for a new homeworld, battling the various xenos in the area. The excel in guerrilla tactics, rivalling the infamous Raven Guard in their attacks. Lacking, and somewhat distrusting of, but not less honouring, tanks and transports, they rely on ambushes to destroy their enemy quickly and efficiently, their Space Marines deploying in hidden positions before the enemy enters the area; leaping out of hidden positions and annihilating all opposition. Their assault troops are famed for their speed and camouflage; the front half of their armour painted to match that of the sky, the enemy hearing the jets but not spying the marines until they are amongst the enemies of the Immortal Emperor.

5 Space Marines - Missile Launcher, Infiltrate (100)

5 Space Marines - Multi-Melta, Flamer, Infiltrate (106)

Fast Attack Total: 165

5 Assault Marines - Sergeant with Terminator Honours, Power Fist, Furious Charge, Meltabombs (165)

ARMY TOTAL: 492

Why would you take 2 HQ's in 500 points? You have nearly 2/5ths of your points tied up in non scoring units. Bad decision. I'd drop one of them, and then give the other basic arament (bolt pistol and frag grenades, maybe a jump pack).

Will do. The extra points could make the army a bit more like it's backstory, by letting me give the Space Marines Infiltrate and the Assault Marines use Furious Charge. Sure, it may not be competitive, but again, this is more of a friendly list.

For so few points you should take the Chaplain as a Reclusiarch, and then use the 18 points left for anything you may want

Hey there.

Just looking at your list, I like what I see! :P

Though I do notice one thing, you have 2 infiltrating units, a fast moving unit, and a foot slogger that would go greatly with the fast moving unit.

With saying that, I suggest you turn the master of sanctity to a Reclusiarch, and then add on a jump pack. Then you can run him with your assalt squad and have them benifit from the charge bonus. Also, you won't have only 1 foot slogging model.

Troops 2: Tactical Squad: 106 Points
- 3 bolters, 1 Multi-Melta, 1 flamer, Infiltrate

[FAST ATTACK]

Fast Attack 1: Assalt Squad: 165 Points
- 4 Bolt Pistols & Close combat weapons, Meltabombs, Furious Charge
- 1 Vet Serg. Power Fist, Bolt Pistol, Furious Charge

[hr]

There is one more alternative though, instead of giving your chaplain Artificer armour, you could drop that, and give him terminator honours and bionics or something.

I'm liking the look of this list. It seems to strike a balance between effectiveness and sticking with the chapter's traits.
