Default Ravenwing

I'm a huge Dark Angels player, and I've toyed around with playing a more ravenwing orientated force (If not solid Ravenwing). I was just curious as to whether or not anyone has done this with the new rules. If so, is it still effective? And what kind of units do you use in your typical 1000 or 1500 point games? I know that with the old rules, Ravenwing forces could be pretty nasty. I think they still can be, but overall I'm just looking for army composition ideas and stuff ;D

Put simply, no.

Ravenwing get slaughtered even more than they used to now. The Master is quite durable, providing you put him in Land Speeder (Sammael on Bike is a joke, trust me). For "pure" Ravenwing, you're going to have to get used to losing. A lot.

Hmm, I suppose with a very limited amount of models it would be very tough to make any of them last long :/ I actually thought Sammael was a pretty sweet model, the only problem is that in the couple games I've played with him so far, I've failed way too many armor saves to come close to obeying any of the laws of probability. That, and I even melted down his stupid plasma cannon...lol

I'm going to hurry and build my landspeeder version. I think that with 14 armor all around, he'd be more durable, but I don't like the fact that it only takes one lucky shot to kill him....but on the other hand, as long as he moves 12 inches they can only glance which is pretty cool!

Hmm well so far my experience with my own Ravenwing force at 1000 points has proved very different from Wargamers. I've won more than half my games and every game so far has been a challenging learning experience. I'm seriously enjoying it.

A few tips

1 - Sam on a jetbike is ESSENTIAL. He adds a lot of things the army lacks, long range high AP firepower. Ability to ignore terrain. Combat punch. He's really durable, just don't leave him in a spot where he can be rapid fired by a full unit. For more on how to use him check this out:

2 - Attack bikes kick ass! In 1000 points I take three of them and my opponents cry. I always give them multi meltas and let them deal with tanks. If there's not good target I just hide them and save them as scoring units till the end.

3 - Power fists not power swords. Don't give your sergeants power swords, they're not going to do enough impact. A powerfist however is very useful.

Anyways here's the 1000 point list I use, its 17 models and 8 scoring units, how awesome is that!

Samael on Jetbike
205

6 Ravenwing bikes w/ apothecary, standard bearer, veteran sergeant w/ powerfist
285

Attack Bike w/ multi melta
50

Land speeder tornado
100

3 Bikes w/ melta gun
130

Attack Bike w/ multi melta
50

3 Bikes w/ melta gun
130

Attack Bike w/ multi melta
50

Total points: 1000
