Default Tournoment coming up, need critcs on a list for a friend.

Hey, there's a tournoment coming up at 800pts, and a friend of mine may want to play. I'm trying to get him into 40k, and he wants to play marines. I wote up this list pretty quickly, and I know it needs work.

HQ
Captain:lightning claw, plasma pistol, Artificer armour-145pts

ELITE
Dreadnaught:heavy flamer, extra armour-120pts

Troops
Scout Squad:Five men, bolt pistol and close combat weapons for all.-65pts

Tactical squad:Ten men, plasma rifle, missile launcher-170pts

FAST ATTACK
Assault squad:Five men, plasma pistol-115pts

HEAVY SUPPORT
Devastator squad:Five men, four heavy bolters-135pts

Whirlwind:Stock-85pts

Since he's a beginner, I tried to make a list that's easy to use. The last hing a want is for him to be confused in his first tournoment. I may drop the Artificer armour for a jump pack. The only problem I see is a lack of anti-tank firepower, with just one missile launcher. Any comments would be helpful, remember, keep it simple for him.

so what your saying is that oven cleaner can remove paint from plastic models? and after that, you take a toothbrush to your plastic model, and the paint just comes off?

HQ-Chaplain comes stock with a Power Weapon (Crozius Arcanium??) and Lightning Claws are only any good in pairs. I'd say leave him stock, give him a Jump Pack, Bolt Pistol and Frags for a much cheaper, WAY more effective HQ.

Elite-Might want to take this guy out for a better anti-tank solution, when I say "might", I mean "Seriously consider". Plus, extra Armor is next to worthless on Dreds since they won't be able to fire whether shaken or stunned.

Troops-Spend the extra points (+5) and get the Lascannon over the Missile Launcher, you need the anti-armor punch.

Fast Attack-Good.

Heavy Support-Throw out one Heavy Bolter and exchnage him for another Marine. You'll need the extra bodies to take rounds, trust me.

Whirlwind is a nice touch.

Alright, new list.

HQ
Chaplin:Reclusiarch, bolt pistol, frags, jump pack-97pts

ELITES
Dreadnaught:Twin-linked Lascannon-125pts

TROOPS
Scout Squad:Five men, Bolt pistols and close combat weapons-65pts

Tactical Squad:Ten men, Plasma gun, Lascannon-175pts

FAST ATTACK
Assault squad:Five men, plasma pistol-115pts

HEAVY SUPPORT
Devastator squad:Five men, three heavy bolters-120pts

Whirlwind:Stock-85pts

Total of 779pts. What do you suggest I spend the 20 pts on for him?

I'd have to say that a better, in my opinion, is a dreadnaught with missile launcher and either lascannon, or assault cannon, that way you have a pure, shooty, Dread.

The second list looks better but you're not done yet.

Further tweaking

HQ
Chaplin:Reclusiarch, bolt pistol, frags, jump pack-97pts

ELITES
Dreadnaught:Twin-linked Lascannon, missile launcher -135pts

TROOPS

Tactical Squad: five men, Lascannon- 90

Tactical Squad: five men, plasma gun, heavy bolter - 90

5 Scouts, frag grenades - 70

FAST ATTACK
Assault squad:Five men, veteran sergeant, power fist- 130

HEAVY SUPPORT
Devastator squad:Five men, two heavy bolters-115

Whirlwind:Stock-85pts

802 So you're two over. So I guess you could drop off the scout frag grenades.

That'll be ten points, I'll have ten points left. Should I give the assault squad meltabombs?

That list looks great Falstead, but I'll need to get some suitable models.

As a note, he wants the megaforce. Which one is beyond me, as there are two types, one from the GW cataloge and the one online. I'm assuming he wants the one from the online store. How do you suggest he equip everyone in that box?
