Starting Dark Angels Army, Need Help

Default Starting Dark Angels Army, Need Help

Hi, I'm just thinking about starting a dark angels army, but I'm not sure if I want to do dark angels, or another chapter.

Any suggestions?

Well the Dark Angels have the newest codex and some aspects of the army are very unique.

For instance the Dark Angels don't just have Terminator squads, they have Deathwing Terminators, who can become troops and not elites if the Master of the Deathwing, Master Beliel is taken as an HQ and up to half of the Deathwing units held in reserve can deep strike automatically on turn 1. A rather nifty setup if you want a whole Terminator Army or you want to take more Dreadnaughts and still have Terminators as troops. Deathwing are also fearless so they won't be running away anytime soon.

The Dark Angels also have the Ravenwing. Ravenwing squadrons can have 6 Bikes, an Attack Bike and a Land Speeder all in one Force Organization Slot, what's better is that the Land Speeder and the Attack Bike can split off to form their own squads and the Bikes can split into two squads of 3, effectively giving you 4 scoring units. These also become troops if the Master of the Ravenwing, Sammael is taken. Sammael is also a great character, he has two options. He can be mounted on a Jetbike and basically has a 2+ save, 4+ invulnerable, T5, can't be insta-killed and much, much more. He is however vulnerable because unlike other HQs he is not an Independant Character.

The Dark Angels have a few other unique attributes. Pretty much all their infantry have Bolt Pistols along with their usual armament, including those with heavy or special weapons, so you always have the option to fire the pistols and charge into combat. Combat Squads is another rule the Dark Angels have that lets them split 10 man squads into two squads of 5, each entirely seperate in everything but the FOC.

There is more but that's the jist of the most pronounced differences.

There are many other chapters however, the Black Templars have their own codex that was done early in the re-vamping of the codexies. They have vows that give them certain abilities and special units as well. The Blood Angels are getting some excelent new rules soon and some have already been released in White Dwarf. The Space Wolves are another chapter that have their own rules and of course you can make your own chapter with the Traits in Codex: Space Marines.

Thanks for the help. I'm gonna stick with dark angels, and maybe make a raven wing army.
