Default (Starting Marines)I need advice

Hey all,

I'm planning on starting a marine army (along with various other projects) and I need help with starting an army list. My first aim is a 750 list. I will built up around that.
I want a really elite and small force. Maybe the see but dont be seen on my tac squads, termies with a chaplain for HQ.
I had this really crazy idea of using scouts with snipers as support and using termies as a "core" unit (I know they're a elite choice but I would use them as the mainstay of the army and the main combat force).Would this work?

Can anyone help me out? Thanks for looking, help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Starting Marines? I see.
Well if you are thinking of taking the cheapest minimum troops and loading up on the most powerful heavy Infantry I don't think it's a fair list.
But, the list does sound like a fun one.
Infiltraition and CC Weapons or Furious Charge sounds good. Chaplon lead CC squads can be very powerful.
Good luck!

I've told you about this kind of army before and you have had no queries, whats different?
And I dont understand, why isn't it fair? Please explain.

Heya
I do thinik it is fair if you use Tac squads with your scouts or spend a fair amount on troops.
I think that people should use there troop options..fluff wise that's what an army is made up of, it's troops not elites. But hey, it's just my opinion.
Tell me more about what you want in the army and I can offer some suggestions.
Cheers.

At smaller points costs people do this a lot. And i gotta say i don't like. E.g. Taking two 5 man scout squads because they're the cheapest units you can get, then filling up your elite slots and adding a powerful HQ. I prefer a more balanced arm myself. But if that's what you want try something like this;

Term chaplain (MOS), storm bolter. Command squad 5 terminators, 2 assault cannons. Furious charge. 388 pts

10x marines, bolters, true grit, counter attack and infiltrate. Frags, 1 melta, serg term hon and pow fist. 250 pts

6x scouts, snip rifles. 108 points

746 points for three squads! That elite enough?
