Hey everyone, I'm new to 40k and all, and after looking some stuff over, here's a preliminary list.

What I'm looking to know is what the best way to get all those bits cheaply is.
I'm primarily concerned with the troop choices and their variant guns and close combat weapons. I've already decided against some options I know would be better for the sake of saving some money (and by some I mean a fair bit).

Any other ways to make this army list better would be well appreciated, especially if they help to cut costs.

Thanks a million!

Edit: I forgot, aiming for a 1000 point army. The local GW runs its 40k games at 1000, and so I may as well try to make an army for that field eh?

i like the list heaps! the only thing i would do is change the masters CCW into a single lightning claw and change the bolt pistol into a storm bolter. but this is an exelant list.

Actually I would switch them for a pair of lightning claws, for the extra attack.

Well a few things about this....
1. you got an clerical error in adding. It's no big deal.
2. your off to a good start, you got a fluffless command squad that doesn't waste points. Usually people new to the game will see a command squad and gooo ohhh perdy and spend 500 points on 10 marines ........
3. Your wasting your wonderful initiative 5 with a CCW, you need something with punch. I would suggest 1 of two things: A: bolt pistol + force weapon (omg....) i mean power weapon or B: storm bolter + lightning claw. Both ideas work well and all that. Now people will say that your master should have dual lightning claws. I contest that this is a bad idea as you have no delivery system to get him into close combat fast enough (aka: jump pack, or rhino which a rhino is* bad since transporting a HQ in a rhino counts as him not being on the table and you lose his awesome across the board LD 10)

Well you got 50 points don't you....

these guys could also get infiltrate for the turn one shoot at monster / tank

With your Command squad you could give them furuious charge, tank hunters or infiltrate..... I personally like the last option for your HQ. This allows all your troops and HQ to have infiltrate and really pose a forward threat to your opponent.

A few more command squad troops wouldn't hurt either. It would be nice if you could get that squad to around 8. That is a nice assaulting number....

On Aervyper's advice:

3. Master's can't get force weapons. I believe you mean power weapon. In that case, that set up is the bread and butter of commanders. However, I'd strongly recommend against the storm bolter/lightning claw; an extra attack for the same amount is probably the best way to go.

If your going to take dual claws he should take an 8 / 10 man assault squad. That unit can get into combat faster and better utilize the claws. Since a bolt pistol doesn't give you an extra attack with a lightning claw, you might as well take a storm bolter that has equil range to the rest of the squad. I realize that it is a pricy upgrade but it's there to enjoy. If you can't afford the storm bolter there's really no point in taking the claws. You might as well just min max the points with a power sword and bolt pistol.

Sweet, thanks for all the tips guys!
I also realised that my dread had a small error, and I'm going to fix that along with implementing a bunch of changes once i get back from work.
