Default First Combat Squad Finished (updated picture)

Here is the first combat squad for my new 1000 point army, the rest is undercoated but this is the ony finised unit... and this is only half the squad.

Okay, I have managed to produce some better snaps now...

The Sergeant...

Normally I stay away from glossy paints, but I think that the rich colors make it work quite nicely. Everything is nice, shiny, and crisp.

I'm not as thrilled with the shiny finish as the others, but I agree, your color scheme does pull it off.

The only thing I would say is don't make the flesh areas of the Sergeant shiny as well...flesh, unless soaking wet, or greased up for a pose-down, is rarely high gloss...I'd also maybe matte finish the banner as well...

Again...I'm amazed at the quality of the pictures your camera phone takes...I gotta know what brand it is...

Given the colours shiny is good on the armour, but not so good on the fabric and the skin. You might like to go over them with watered down PVA, so you end up wth a matt finish. But other then that, they are very good.

Oh my God (no not you mr. Taz-devil), you're right! It does! Like one of those huge multicolored lollipops you get at old-school candy stores...
Careful, Jester, you might find people licking your models when you're not looking! ;D

Hi,

In my defense... I would like to point out the models are not as glossy in real life, but the lighting rig I am using (ie... my desk lamp) is not great for giving a good difused light, so i end up with points of light on the figures.

That said however, I am of the opinion that a good varnish really brings out the colour, and I like the slightly gloss look.

As for the banner, I am still deciding on a chapter symbol... so as soon as I finalise a design I will finishe the blanks on the banners and shoulder pads. I have also nearly finished the remaining squad members and a captain, so I will post them as soon a they are done.
