Default Craftworld Lakedaemon - first model complete

While I've already posted this guy in my project log, I just figured I'd post him here as well, since I have a better chance of getting feedback here.

I wanted to higlight and shade with yellow and blue, giving a higher contrast, and suggesting something like a setting sun. However, I'm not quite pleased with the outcome, though that has more to do with my lack of painting skills....

So, any ideas for improving the future models?

It looks good! Don't say its not good
The first picture especially shows some nice blending on the helmet especially. It does remind me of a setting sun.
You have got some nice depth in the left side of the helmet, but i'm not sure I see the same amount of depth and shading in the other side of the helmet though aswell as other areas.
Basically, I think if you want to improve the mini, you need to carry out the same amount of shading throughout the entire mini. For example, you might want to give the bone area of the sheild a wash to give more definition from where it goes from bone to red.
Also, the bone on the back needs a few more coats aswell as some shading.
Cheers and it looks niiice!

Is this Sparta may I ask? Lakedaemon and all that......

If so, the spear is far too long. The Spartans had fairly short spears compared to the other Greek City-states. You might also consider painting a Lambda (essentially a big ^) on the shield. Nice pose though, and the painting is pretty good, but I agree with Hazard, the shading could use some work.

Hmm, this army is Hellenic... the only true "Spartans" will be my wraithguard. These Dire Avengers represent the Makedonian style phalangites, the pezhetairoi, who had 5-7 metre long pikes. All the other units have much shorter spears.

Looking at it again, I do indeed need more depth on the rest of the model. The only parts that have a lot of depth seem to be the ones that are both highlighted and shaded, like the helmet, the chest and skirt. Any ideas how I should add depth to the rest of the model? Just some darker shading?

And yes, the gun is painted... adeptus battle grey base, with codex grey, then highlights and shading...

Yep, for the rest of the model just get a darker tone and apply it to the recesses, and highlight with lighter colours.
Cheers

I like the ancient look (it might be a problem putting them in formation with those huge spears though)
the fluff on the head works especailly well, good base as well dont worry about your painting its better than most (definatly better than mine.) Big thumbs up for that model

@ WISSAM:

That is actually part of the plan! So far, I have pezhetairoi, hoplites, prodromoi jetbikes (light cav) and the wraithlord... my hq for now will be the jetbike's warlock.

Future plans include, alexandre, on a jetbike, hetairoi (shining spears) heavy peltasts (warp spiders) spartans (wraithguard) and hypapists!

In fact... if I can find it, there's a list somewhere here...

Edit:

HEre it is!

What about some Guardians or Dire Avengers as Hypaspists or Phalangyists? That would be cool
