Default Gamedad's Crisis Suit

When I introduced myself on this forum earlier today, someond told me I should post my avatar here...

First I want to explain a couple of things: I painted this miniature to be a wargame figure, not a showcase miniature...
First I spray-painted it flat black. Then I mainly used dry-brush technique to colour it; the suit itself first got a drybrush with "Bubonic brown", a second layer of "Bleached bone" and then a highlight of "Skull white". The red parts were done with a first drybrush of "Scab red", a second layer of "Blood red" and a highlight of "Blood Angels red". The weapons got a layer of "Mithrill silver" over "Boltgun metal".
Here and there you'll see the black undecoat shimmer through. This was done on purpose as I wanted to create a scruffy and battle worn look.

This forum uses BBC, not HTML - "<>" tags and the whole "a href" weirdness don't matter, you can just put in -

Code:
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff85/Gamedad_be/DABattlesuit.jpg
And get a direct link, automatically opening in a new window or tab .

[hr]

The mini looks good, though - some bits look a little either thick or patchy, but the weathering is superb.

Wow.. You guys are fast ;D
I just copied the wrong photobucket -link...Rectified that...
The fact that some things look a bit patchy is because I do need new spectacles...
My eyes are getting a bit old...as is the rest of me 8)
Anyway, thanks for your comments...
I did make a mistake : I put a weapon/ upgrade on both shoulder slots because when I'd bought the model I didn't have the codex. I could remove one of them but then I would probably damage the model...
The base is made of a normal GW base and a piece of cork they use in flowerpots... I've glued it on the GW-base and put a pin in the leg of the miniature to give it a more secure "grip". Then I put PVA-glue on the base and dipped it into some sand. Do you guys think I should paint the cork and dry-brush it grey or something to make it look more "rocky". ???

Heh...it sounds as though you're making excuses for a badly painted model, but it's not, not in any way. The paint job might look patchy or sloppy in places, but that just gives it an awesome battle-worn effect. This guy looks like he's been fighting for days. Nicely done.

P.S. Fabulous base too.

Hi Gamedad,

I love the battle-worn look on your XV8, does the rest of you army look like this?

Oh and I wouldn't bother removing the 'extra wargear' just say it's a hardwired system and it's on the suit so you don't forget about it, WYSIWYG so to speak

Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Very rough and scruffy looking the optics on the head are very well done though you do have some mold lines on the aerials
