Default Inquisitor Audette of Ordo Hereticus

For my Witch Hunters force, the standard Inquisitor is too common for my tastes. So I took my old Fabius Bile model (which spent most of his career as a Word Bearer Apstole Conversion) and gave him the bath. Shaved his Chaotic symbols and the like, and did some chopping and rebuilt his arms with greenstuff. Gave him some proper hair for that chauve head and a sherrif moustache to match his attitude.

So here's our master of the Divine Pronouncment, Inquisitor Lord Audette:

Oh very cool.
I like the light affect very much.
Hes a cool fig and nice conversion.
Only one small thing his bolter seems plain compared to how cool and bright he is?

Might just be me.

Anyways very cool and the base is so cool and the way you tied that into the lighting on him.

Way to go some of the best lighting affects I have ever seen.

Great job.

very slick, i have to say. the lighting effects look very nice

just one thing tho: the bone robes don't really seem to be of the same quality as the rest of the mini...they look a little rough

Yea, the robes always caused me problems. I wanted it to simply look weathered and dirty (or just beaten) but it didn't quite come out how I wanted. And the bolter is quite plain, it's black with dark grey highlights and a lighter grey "sheen" on the main chassie of the bolter itself (though the pics don't exactly show this at the angles). I wanted it dark as it's a higher object to bring the base out without it being too dominating (massive black space down there).

But, we learn as we go, eh?

Thanks for the comments

Here's another Inquisitor, but much older, when I used metalics. I've since moved away from meltaics, as it's difficult to do fun shades with, but he was a fun model to chace people with while burning them hateful plasma He was also my first attempt at a source light. To this day, I want to strip him though, as I love the model and would love to revive him with some fresh paint.

I wouldn't say master... I'm a humble student at this as well here, but trying different methods.

This method with the sword model, I tried a way of drybrushing to obtain the effect, but I found it to be a very poor way to get the light source. It works, if you wanted to do several models quickly, but definitely not a nice way to pull it off.

The other method, I used on the top model with the halo and scepter, took more time and I feel worked much greater.

Tips:

The key to light source is to pick an object as your source. Make a mental image of a circle around this source and decide how strong it will be. A weak source will have a very small circle and a very small amount of light coming from it. A large source obviously would have a much larger circle and stronger light. There is one real rule to it: never let your light that is glowing around the source, be stronger or lighter than the source. Real light is always less bright and less strong than the source light (think of your light bulbs and your tables... they glow yellowish from the light, but aren't the same color as the light). Then the rest is up to your taste.

I prefer layers as it's quick and doesn't require wetblending or feathering (good for starting out so to speak). All you have to do is take your darkest color, which in my case was a mix of black and my main color (storm blue) to make a very deep blue that is almost black. I diluted it to the consistency of skim milk and plainted it on with care. After it dries, I make a new mix, with less black. And do the same thing, slowing going lighter and lighter and each time, I only apply this paint closer and closer to the source so that the closer I am to the source the lighter the light is, and futher away, it's a bit darker. At the same time, you can apply this to the actual source, so that the colors match. After you've reached your source light, you stop painting more light, except on your source. Go one or two more mixes lighter for the final light on the actual source to get a nice effect.

Now, if you do this very subtle, using very darker lights, far less vibrant, you can get very realistic effects that are insanely good. However, for me, my minis are not painted realistically, so I wanted that vibrant comic light kind of look. Plus, I just like vibrant color for the Inquisitor to really stand out from his henchmen and all.

Hope that helps

Well I second what Bloodid Fangs said.

You do somthing we wish we could all do. Make somthing very difficalt look easy. For instance I didn't even realise that was a non metalic metal (BTW can we get a tutorial for that too).

God Of Painting you have some compertition.
