Default tyranid test figure[ big images]

In the past Ive always liked tyranids but Ive never been able to find a paint scheme i liked. After some testing i found one and here it is.( ignore the fact that he has 1 leg, and that its half finished, the other leg was cannibalized for something else and that was the leg that went into the base, so his other leg had to be crammed into the slot for pictures)

Please remember that this is a test model. I used washes and if anybody has any helpful comments to make the washes look better, they would be greatly appreciated.

Why'd you choose a Flamer to weigh the base down? It could have been like a rock or something, even for a a test model. :P

As for the actual paint job, I think another wash'd get rid of the black showing from under the grey, and the black on the carapace should definitely be highlighted. Remember to paint the tongue a different colour then the armour, because if you don't...... it looks weird.

Hmm... I like the scheme, I've always been fond of lighter colors (like that grey...what it that, space wolves grey? fortress grey?)

I like the contrast of the black (but at the same time it also seems to blend with the grey...I like greys and blacks, they look nice together) but it would be a lot better, as Toasty said, to highlight it. Black's one of the most important colors to highlight, since 1) It's so dark anyway; and 2) It looks like it was just primed and left the black untouched after that

Another thing I agree with that Toasty said was another wash would look good. Maybe like a blue or something?

Here Ive highlighted the armour to the extent of my skill (which isn't much since Ive never highlighted). The round ridges on the back threw me off but i tried and it does look better IMO. Ive also tried a enchanted blue wash on one leg, which I'm undecided on.

I really like the blue wash.
Your highlighting looks pretty good - what color did you use? I'd highlight the edges around the armor as well.

THE EDGES! DOH! *smacks self on head*

Anyway.... i used space wolfs grey to highlight it.

And to answer The Muffinator (1shot1kill)'s question, ya i used space wolfs grey with a shadow grey wash.

I'm going to try giving all the skin a wash of blue, see how it turns out. I'll probably put pictures considering i have nothing else to do right now (Christmas holidays sure are long).

The blue wash came out nicely, it gives it a pale blue look, very alien. Here are the pics (oh and ignore the bottom right arm, kinda messed up on that one).

Cool, looking a ton better with the blue wash, still looks almost chalky though, maybe use a tad bit of varnish? That might make it too shiny though... ???

P.S.- since when do genestealers have just one leg, I guess its been a long time since I've seen one.

The blue wash definitely worked its magic. The Genestealer's skin looks excellent, I must say. If I were you I'd certainly apply a layer of Gloss Varnish to the carapace. I feel the skin's perfect the way it is, and looks fine, but the carapace would compliment it more if it was less dry, and more shiny. Not too much, though! Keep it at least in the same flow as the skin itself, while still a little shinier. And remember to paint the tongue!

Genestealers still have two legs :P He said why it only has one leg in his first post. Read that for your answer.

Oh, thanks for the clarification Toast ;D.

And yeah, your probalably right, a good coat of varnish to the carapace would look good, the skin is fine, I guess.... :'(
