Default Vanderbleek's 'Nids

I still have some more gaunts, a few warriors, some genestealers and a carnifex to paint... comments/criticisms welcome!

The dots on the Guants heads look a tad sloppy, and the pictures leave a little bit to be desired, but great work non the less ;D

They look pretty cool.

From what I can see, the green carapace and the claws are awesome, but the black looks really plain. You could try to post a little closer pictures, they'd be way easier to see

Turns out my lense was smudged, so I'll have better pictures up later.
And yes, the black is kind of plain, any tips on how to make it better? Highlighting black just seems weird to me.

How else do you expect to give it character? You can highlight black with thin lines of codex grey; it looks rubbish up close, but on the tabletop it lends your models more of a three dimensional look. Problem is, it'll take forever on a legion of Tyranids, if it were a lighter colour you could just give it an ink wask, but black is one of those colours that are really hard to do well. Sounds odd doesn't it? But you can't shade black, and highlighting is time consuming at best. You could try drybrushing the black areas with a chaos black/codex grey mix (before you add the other colours) to give it a dusty appearance and hopefully some depth.

But personally, I think we're just nitpicking here, they look great as they are - I love the talons, that's some excellent blending. Yeah, a huge dark swarm of these beasties would be really intimidating. Good work!

Thanks for the C&C everyone. The claws use feathering to go from liche purple to red gore, and really stand out. They're kind of a focal point, and I find that you kind of ignore the other details when they're on the tabletop. I just finished my genestealers, warriors, and rippers so I should have pics of those pretty soon.
