Default Commander El'Skua

Presenting Shas'El'Skua of the Viss'el Sept.

This is the first of my painted models I have posted, and any constructive criticism would be appreciated.

Actually, the knee joint is painted that on purpose way to represent use- although I'm considering cleaning it up. The suit is Space wolf gray and white, with beaten copper for the metal bits. The Paint scheme is supposed to be slightly camo for an iceworld- the effect is better on my firewarriors.

Anyway, here's a larger photo

Loads and Loads of mould lines!

Scrappy painting in some areas, i can see somthing that looks like painted hair there.

Scheme is good, wings (i think) look good.

The pose and the scheme are good ( The brass parts kind of don't mix though). But in all reality I think it was executed poorly.

I don't mean to be harsh or anything but the painting is rather sloppy as is the model work. It takes only ten minutes to clean up the mold lines and they can really bring a model down. "rough" painting does not show as "wear and tear" on a model, it just looks like bad painting. There are ways to make a part look weathered and war-torn, but they take more time then just slapping some thick layers of paint on.

The scheme is good, the posing is great. This is your commander, put some blood and sweat into that paintjob!

Kiznti,

I would love to comment, but I can really see the model that well.

ok, for some starting pointers!

you got the white coverage well, this can truly be a pain in the buttocks for some painters. Heck, all of the coverage is good.. and you got the paint in the right spot...

But on to what you can do better.

1. clean the model, each mini has something called moldlines, these are small plastic that go along the models parts.. just scrape these with a sharp knife or file them down.

2. make sure the primer covers well.

3. water down the paints. Its better to apply 10 thin coats then 1 thick coat. this will make sure that you get an even coverage, without making it look sloppy.

4. shading. Apply a darker tone of the base color, and leave it in the recesses of the model. then when you go over with the basecolor, it will make shadows, and give the model more depth!

5. hlighlighting, is just the same as shading, but reversed. After you applied the main color, you mix in a little of a lighter tone, and then gently apply this to the edges and crests of the parts. gives a mini depth and the illusion of light on it.

So, all that remains now is that you practise and dont be afraid to show your other models!
