Default Ban on gender specfic activites places (ie sports, bathrooms)?

So i came across this today in my web surfing at work (tis really all we do here...), and it kind shocked me. Granted nothing is set in stone as it has yet to go to a vote, but still it seems like this is going a bit to far into "human rights". I dont see men/women sharing same bath rooms going over to well with most people.

Heres where i heard about it. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/04/08...throoms-teams/

If you have a genetic disorder where you are neither male or female, there has to be some gender you associate yourself more than the other, and that's the bathroom you should be going into. If you've had plastic surgery to become another gender, I guess it depends on how far along with the surgery you are; once again this is at your discretion. But otherwise if you're a dude go to the guys room and if you're a lady go to the ladies room. There's nothing sexist about that; it's about privacy. Most people like it that way.

As for the sports, I was under the impression that gender divided sports teams were gender divided in name-only. At least at my school, if you really wanted to join the other gender's sports team, and you were qualified... Yeah they'd get pissy about it, but they'd let you.

I remember it being this way in my city. Not so much in my school, but there were a few female players in my hockey league.

As for unisex bathrooms, I find the idea quite silly. Equality is one thing, but that's just taking it too far. I suspect someones trying to play the "pointless political correctness card" again. Like CompuBrains said, there's the matter of privacy, I reckon that most people place enough value on it to be uncomfortable with this idea.

EDIT: Stupid Faux News. Even when I deliberately avoid reading their crap, I still get mis information.

I dunno...I see it going over pretty well with most guys...and some girls. So probably a 50/50 split :P

Sports teams: Perfectly fine. Even at my highschool we had a couple female football players... mainly because there was no female football team and these girls were bigger than most guys.

Bathrooms: Really? I don't see it. Little kids don't even know the differences yet, I imagine that would lead to problems. Older kids... texting each other to go to the bathroom at the same time.. for a quick make-out session. Wouldn't surprise me one bit.

But actually I'm against it for the other reason. I do not want to share the bathroom with females. That really good looking girl suffers from an instant -10 when she is in the stall next to you.

It's worth pointing out that unisex bathrooms don't automatically mean everyone getting their bits out in front of each other. When I did work experience at the BBC they had unisex bathrooms. This just meant individual rooms with a shower and toilet.

I doubt something like this will get through... while i half-agree on the thing with sports teams, it seems idiotic to un-seperate locker rooms or bathrooms... it just doesn't seem right.

The way i see it, if the students think they are being discriminated against, then do it, if they dont, then dont, if no one is upset, then why impose? As mentioned in other posts, some people prefer the privacy... and at that point... if this is imposed, isn't the human right to privacy being violated? To me in this case it's political correctness gone too far.

And yet parents go ballistic when there is sex in video games? (San andreas mod anyone?)

Seriously, this hadnt better go through.

Why would girls go to male locker rooms? If that happens, theres going to be a lot more sexual harassment cases in schools.

I remember our locker room, LOL, Some of em liked smacking each others member against each other!

Geh....Fox-"news" Why do all their articles make me smirk/gain brain hemmorage by reading them. It's all the regular "derpy, derpy doo" news taken out of context.
"Fox News - Fairly Retarded"
If anyone actually bothered to read the draft: http://www.foxnews.com/projects/pdf/...n_Guidance.pdf

I feel this makes perfectly sense. To summarize it: It is not allowed to discriminate against people because of their sexual orientation. And people who are transgender are to use the facilities corresponding with their sexual identity. (The sex you relate the most to". Regarding bathrooms/lockerrooms etc. they can either choose the one their sex is mostly related too, or single-stall bathrooms.

This has nothing to do with creating unisex bathrooms/locker-rooms or whatever. Simply how schools are to respond to situations regarding transgender students.
With a couple of tweaks, I hope this gets through.

UUUURGH! My brain starts to hurt again. Perhaps an hour or so of "The Mighty Boosh" can treat it...

NB: Still posting from home from under the stairs. Help with wireless adapter greatly appricated.

Well at Uni, I've shared a bathroom/toilet block with members of the other sex since I arrived. I don't see anything particularly wrong with it, or uncomfortable.

I'll say this though, girls really do hog the showers no matter what time of the day it is. I mean c'mon it's not like you need to have a 40min shower and there is only 4 booths at 4AM when you've come back from the club, but I have a train to catch in 3 hours time so can I please have a shower???

Having said that I think on public toilets, we should keep the male female split. This is simply because guys urinate against a wall don't they? Girls don't.

So to avoid the need now for guys to go have to use the WC, I think it's better we keep the old gender split. As a guy I'd be slightly pissed off having to enter a cubical everytime I wanted a waz.

It's a consent thing, when your with people you know and you don't mind sharing the facilities then feel free. But with strangers perhaps no such a good location.
