Sorry i couldn't think of a more interesting title...

... Political correctness i suppose... :

What's more irritating is the fact there will be SOME people who would act as stated in the article... which leads to stuff like this...

It's just sad to be honest, your talking about an event that you turn up to expecting that it will use such language if you were going to be offended you would go to a bingo night.

Ergo, this is just stupid.

It's pretty bad he gave in, I'd have ignored them. The council said it was a precaution against legal action, but I doubt your average bingo player has much money to waste on a questionable lawsuit for something that they probably don't care about anyway. God help us if someone decides to set up a 'no win no fee' claims company for people who feel offended. Litigation culture sucks.

See what I don't get is when people complain about political correctness on an issue, when it's not something that needs to be PC. PC only really applies when a scenario is 'forced' on you. Like School, while your at school your obliged by law to attend. Therefore the school cannot be 'offending' towards you, otherwise its a kind of 'state endorsed poke fun/causal racism/singling out etc.'. If that makes any sense?

For anything in the general public, may it be society, activity, show. There is absolutely no reasoning for why these things should be 'PC'. If you don't like it, sod off. You don't have to be taking part/watching etc.

There are some caveats though. Advertising for one should be PC, because advertising is trying to 'forced upon you'. Product labeling/instructions. Because while you could boycott the product, the packaging is by extension advertising, and nonspecific material. So anybody should be comfortable picking the object up.

Public speaking, and politics. Again although you may have come to listen, you don't know exactly what said person is going to be speaking about. Hence you should be able to turn up to any public event and feel 'safe' knowing that there is not going to be singling out of individuals or groups.

In practice this latter case is the one most often breached. At least in the UK, because its very difficult ot enforce when legally somebody can claim their freedom of speech.

Anyhow one is rambling.

It doesn't make it clear in the article, but if the guy is a councillor and runs a charity bingo night, I'm guessing he uses a council building. Not that it really makes any difference, but I reckon if he ran an actual bingo hall the council wouldn't have done anything.
