Default Eldar aurora: Battle fleet gothic

Well earlier today this dropped through my door:

An eldar aurora! The biginnings of my eldar fleet (even though I no nothing about battle fleet gothic I bought it any way)!

Here are all the parts after a quick cleanup:

I had to modify the flying stand slot so it stays on the stand without wobbling:

And after a bit of assembly:

For all those who do not know the scale here is a scale comparison with a fire warrior and a battlesuit:

There it is my first forge world model, my first eldar model and my first Battle fleet gothic minature. I will begin painting tomorrow if i decide on a paint scheme.

Cheers,
Unholy Harbinger

Nice. Is the bit of plastic between the dorsal sail and the tower thing supposed to be there?

Looking at their pictures on the Forgeworld website, the answer seems to be no. Upon closer examination, they appear to be vents to allow the resin to flow within the mould and ought to be removed. However I can see why one may want to keep them, due to their look.

I thought they were part of the ship!

They look like they would control the sail angle. I will have a closer look to decide wether I will keep them. Though I probably would remove them.

Do you have a fleet designed yet?

Lucky for you, these little Capital ships are pretty cheap in points. They also mount my two favorite standard weapons in the entire BFG game! As fast as an Escort with enough firepower to hurt many light(er) capital ships, the Aurora's aren't bad to shore up weak areas in a fleet.

I'm currently in the 90%+ Escort camp for Eldar Corsairs, but I know "all Capital ship" lists aren't uncommon. Pair them up though, imo the large set of torpedoes will do better than a four sized salvo.

I don't have a fleet design but I have a few questions on BFG.

Because I am having an eldar fleet which books will I need for all the rules for the fleet. I know auroras rules are in IA taros campaign.
I mainly brought these as I really liked the look of them.

Also the entire reason I am into BFG is because of the TO specialists games competion as I looked at them and it grew on me.

One thing I did find is that superglue works much better on resin models.

Okay, the first thing you will need to do is go to the Games Workshop Battlefleet Gothic Resources page. There you will find everything you need to play.

At a minimum, you will need to download the following files;

File NameReason why

BFG Basic RulesCore rules of the game

BFG Advanced RulesExtension of the core rules that are generally used in every game

BFG ScenariosNeed these to tell you how to set up your ships to play

BFG Ships of the Gothic SectorIncludes the Eldar Corsair Fleet List and the core Eldar ship rules (Shadow, Eclipse, Hellebore, Aconite, Nightshade, Hemlock)

BFG Xenos FleetsContains rules for the Void Stalker, the Aurora and the Solaris class ships as well as an updated Corsair Fleet list

BFG Torpedo MarkersPrintable Ordnance markers needed for advanced games

BFG Fleet RegistryPrintable Army List Roster sheet

BFG Bearing CompassEssential tool needed to play game

BFG Blast Markers and AsteroidsEssential markers needed to play even the basic game

The two files named 'BFG Doom of the Eldar' and 'BFG Yriels Raiders' are NOT necessary to play Corsair Eldar; they detail the Craftworld Eldar Fleet (which is a distinct fleet list from the Corsair fleet) and rules to combine the two (but unless you purchase Craftworld ships then there's no real reason to even look at these two documents).

The general consensus for Corsair Eldar seems to be that the Cruisers are not worth taking due to their fragility, and as a result of this the majority of your fleet ought to be made up of Escorts instead. However, you will likely always need at least one Eclipse due to the need for Ordnance.

Thanks!

I still have one question though ...
... Whats the difference between corsair eldars and craftworld eldars?

Different ships for the most part. The ships have different armor values, points costs, and weapons loadouts.

In the background the Corsairs are the piratical Eldar that you hear so much about. They are generally unaffiliated with the Craftworlds and are led by charismatic Pirate Princes rather than by a hierarchical ranking system. Conversely, the Craftworld Eldar represent the military fleet of the respective Craftworlds.

In gaming terms, the two share a load of common rules, such as their unique movement rules (commonly called Move-Shoot-Move or MSM), their weaponry and their Ordnance. However, as has been pointed out, their ships are unique to each type of fleet (such as Dragonships belonging to Craftworld fleets whilst Shadows belong to Corsair fleets).

In terms of fleet lists, Craftworld Eldar and Corsair Eldar CANNOT be taken together in the same fleet (aka army) unless you are using the Eldar Hero rules from the document titled 'BFG Yriels Raiders'.
