Default My First Chaos Space Marines a.k.a. Orc's Big Day in Durham [image heavy]

So imagine my joyous yawp when I found a hobby shop only 20min away from my dorm by car. I've been living in Chapel Hill for over a year with no place to play 40k until now. While there, I decided to start the CSM army I've always wanted and bought an old box of Chaos Space Marines (it even had the old mutation spure!).

So here is my Aspiring Champion. I used a lot of bitz from a Chaos Warrior sprue I had laying around. I can't decide if I want him in the air or on the base. It'd prefer on the base but it would have stability issues. Did all the cutting with a pen knife, so it's a little rough.

The squad photo will come as soon as I decide what to do with this guy's base.

Ha, the squad!

Plasma gunners. Note the one on the right was my attempt to turn a bolter into a plasma gun, which I'm not too pleased with up a coat of paint will help.

Bolters

Thanks. I was hoping to spread out the cloth a bit more, but bunching it together looked too ghastly to pass up. The cloth was a chopped up Orc banner.

Dang that is a great aspiring champion. The bolter into a plasma gun looks OK.

Have him floating. Floating is wonderful and lovely. If you're concerned about stability, fill the underside of the base with blu-tack to make it heavier, that should sort it. The only thing is that floating is a rather Tzeencth-like quality, what with being magical and all, and these guys are rather saying "Khornate" to me at the moment. Khorne hates magic, so unless you make them more Tzeencth-like it's not that fluffy. But I don't care that much because it's a brilliant idea and the model looks very cool.

As for the plasma-bolter dude - he's not too bad, but what I reckon he needs is a plasma coil - just cut a square out of the top of the bolter and make some plasma coils out of green stuff, and it'll look fine.

Not meaning to hijack your thread but here is how i did bolters into plasmaguns

Easy-plasmagun conversion tips

Step 1

one bolter and a plasmapistol from your bits box, it also works fine with chaos plasmapistols

Step 2

then you cut the weapons like this

Step 3

split the bolter in half in order to the the "plasmagun like overheating stuff on the top of the gun, when painted this really helps to make it look like a proper plasmagun.

Step 4

then glue the whole thing together like i have done here.
