Default The best way to paint a tank...

Ok, so i've promised myself i would paint ALL of my Tau... and Guard...and Lotr Mordor...and Wood Elves ;D before i buy anything else...

And i was wondering what the best way to do a tau tank was, if you dont mind, i want the whole lot, undercoat, painting, highlighting, everything...I do a white scheme, working from black (Codex grey, Astronomican, white), so unless there's a quicker way to do a tank, i'd be pleased to hear how to do it fast...

Thanks!

Well, just for putting on the basecoat(s) on my tanks, the GW spray gun worked great for me. It's really hard to turn the tank when you use it, so I just went section by section, doing my best to make an even coat. Then after that I went to painting on all the details/highlights with brushes.

I was gonna say spray gun. You can do more than just the base coat too. You just need to do some masking here and there and away you go!

I've read this, but I've yet to try it:

Seems interesting!

My dad used to do his tanks almost entirely with spray paint until he bought an airbrush. If you have an airbrush you can do the base coat and then mask off sections and do the other coats quite easily. You still have to do highlights and such with a brush (unless your REALLY good with an airbrush) but it saves lots of time.
If you don't have an airbrush I would recommend buying one. They are relatively cheep and can be bought at micheals for like $60 or less depending on the quality.

Also another thing I saw somewhere was that, for the crevices in the tanks, there are really fine pens that you can buy (cant remember the name of them for the life of me) and you can just draw them in.

I assume you are referring to these:

http://www.dickblick.com/products/sa...ma-micron-pen/

Preferably these sizes:

Pen Size 005 = Point Size .20 mm
Pen Size 01 = Point Size .25 mm

They work wonders on filling in those cracks. It may be considered a cheap way out by some people, but I just like to think the pens are another form of a brush.

Well painting from a black primer to a white color usually requires lots of layers.

If you start from a light foundation paint like Dheneb stone it might cut down a layer or 2 of painting, but I don't know if it will achieve the effect you want. But it'll save time.

What if you just used a flat white spray paint for the first base coat?
