This is a pint scheme for marines right? Blood red over a black base coat is nearly suicide if you want it bright. It will end up turning brownish. You will need some other red before the blood red.

I think it is not sure about it. It is a bit darker though. If you put blood red on top of it you will get a brighter red.

if you need to have a black base coat use the Foundation: Mechrite red and then some layers of blood red. but if you want bright red models you should go for a white undercoat

I paint super bright red over a black base coat easily. I just use Vallejo Bloody Red. So much more opaque than Citadel reds. Basecoat 50/50 Foundation Mechrite Red/Foundation White or Skull White, then thin layers of Vallejo.
Also keep in mind Vallejo dries a bit flat, so one last coat of GW Blood red will bring the shiny tone back. |

Blood red is sort of flat as well.

You could start on a brown basecoat, then red gore, then blood red, it would give it softer shading.
I don't like the metal one, do boltgun, then chainmail, then wash with BB . Truth be told, I don't know why you want to start on black, start with white, you've got half your scheme done and you can simply paint blood red on to it, at the risk of sounding cliched "simples, meep!" |

Have to agree with Morglum. You have an over all colour combination that will lend it's self better to a skull white base coat, you will then lose some of the before mentioned problems.
My metal recepie is nearly the same. boltgun black wash chainmail highlight mithril
