Well, It kinda lacks colour and i would start with layering more on the horn.
Maybe also try more layers of gold to make it stand out more. EDIT: you could also try GW Washes, They work wonderfull for fast shading. ;D

Start with bleached bone on the hornes and then go over it with skull white for a more clean white. You can also try highlighting the brown with a slightly lighter shade with drybrushing to make the detail stand out more. Otherwise it looks pretty good, I like the color on the cloak.

Before I talk about paints, one quite point - MOULD LINES! Leaving mould lines on will ruin a model, no matter how well painted it is. All you need is a sharp edge, or a hobby file. It doesn't take too long to get rid of them, but they will make things look infinitely better when you're done.
I think the main thing the model is lacking is shading/highlighting. The absolute first thing I'd do is give the metals a wash. It looks far too bright, to start with. I'd recommend a Boltgun Metal basecoat, followed by a wash in (watered-down) Black Ink (or, failing that, heavily watered Chaos Black), followed by either a drybrush or a straight highlight with Chainmail. The same goes for the gold, although you could try dark brown washes if you prefer. For golds, I actually prefer to basecoat in Tin Bitz, as it provides a nice dark undertone for the gold, as they tend to have poor coverage. Secondly, the strapping on the weapon - by the looks of things, you've used a watered-down Scab Red, but watered it too much. The paint has seeped into the cracks, causing them to be lighter than the material sections. A black wash (as described above), followed by some carefully applied (and not so watery) red would make a world of difference. Highlights in a lighter red for big bonus points. Next, the horns. I do my bone colours in two different ways. The first is to use a light brown basecoat (I think I use an old pot of Vomit Brown), followed by lots of watered-down layers of Bleached Bone, followed by Bleached Bone/Skull White mixes for the highlights. The second is to use Codex Grey as the basecoat. This is because Codex Grey covers black/other dark colours VERY well, needing very few coats, while also remaining quite close to the bone colour. After Codex Grey, just apply layers of Bleached Bone as before. =] The brown on the boots/belt is solid, but a little flat. A very simply line-highlight in a lighter shade would really work wonders. Lastly, the brown fur. Not only does it look quite glossy, it also looks very flat. As before, a black (or dark brown) wash, but this time followed by either a drybrush in a lighter brown, or hand-painted highlights. You could even try going through a range of browns, to reach a bone colour. Just remember - stay within the lines, make sure everything is well-covered (there are splashes of paint all up the back of the horns), layer your colours, and keep your paints thin. =] ed; spelling mistake. |
