I'm currently using armory spray matte.

I held the can a bit too far from the Crisis Suit I was finishing, and it kind of "frosted". If you hold it too close, the finish starts to run and looks horrible. It takes a bit of practice to get it right, but if you do light coats (I use 2 or possibly 3 light coats) you should be fine.

I couldn't imagine gaming with unfinished models. I'd be afraid of chipping the paint. :'(

A lot of people (not me though) spray their models with a gloss hard coat first (the gloss enamel stuff is a lot harder than acrylics) and then overspray with a matte finish - it gives you a very tough protective layer.

If you can get it, get Testors Dullcoat. All the "pros" use it, and apparently its the single best thing to use on models.

synapses is right and most hardware stores carry it. if not got to an art supplyhouse and ask for something ultra light, maybe for pastels or watercolors. ask them what they would try grab a couple of different ones and give em a try. thats really the only way to go. and yes the technique is important to stay a ways off, from the model frank. and get that cam i wanna see your starting technique.

i use citadel matte varnish spray, 2/3 coats does the job. though you have to shake it really well and sometimes the first spray from a new can leaves a bit of a glossy finish as i unfortunately found out. matte satin aerosol leaves a metalic look without the glossy nastiness
