As you can read from the title, Im currently searching for the best paint schemes for my Tau army which Im purchasing this coming August at my local Gw store.
My friend Sarah suggested to paint the Taus ex.Fire Warrior like a bumblebee. Golden yellow for the armor/shoulder pads/helmet/top half of firearm and Choas black mixed with a touch of Skull white for the badge/clothing/bottom half of firearm. It looked awesome. I also have in mind of painting them different shades of grey. They look like ninjas but I dont think they would look good with the surrounding terrains ex.jungle when gaming. You disagree? Then try to convince me by posting your ideas and pics if possible. Heres a website someone gave me. Sadly you can only paint 3 models, Fire Warrior, Eldar Guardian and Space Marine but theres numerous colors to choose from. Why dont you try the bumblebee colors as suggested above and see if they look intresting to you. Thaxs ;D http://www.sabbers.cx/colour/

I reckon some people go overboard with colour schemes and that armies should be painted in natural colours....
Mine are a desert colour but not the same as the codex cos i have red undercloth instead of the brown. That looks quite good cos that merges with the Fire idea. An interesting idea wud be to try to paint them like fire as they r the Fire caste. But that would be difficult and time consuming... The greyes could work but i think if u do that u would want blak undercloth and a mixture of some form of silver with grey for the armour...

Here is my paint scheme:
http://www.tauonline.org/paintschemes_mine.htm Have you got a picture of the 'Bumble bee' scheme? It sounds interesting! I always paint my models so they don't stand out much (Ie black and blue, not bright green and pink!) but it doesn't make that much of a difference how you paint them, as long as the colours complament each-other. Take my brother for example: He paints his tyranids' skin, bibilious green and their armour, lightning blue. Now this does sound like it looks rubbish, as if you get blinded when you look at it, but somehow the 2 colours complement each-other and the colour scheme looks great! You just have to experiment to get the right theme. |

Thaxs for your suggestions, ;D Ill keep your ideas in my notebook while I still wait for more. Sorry Tau Online I dont think I can show you the pic but have you gone to the website Ive posted above?
Rjay Im curious, what kind of color/s you used to paint them Desert style? Ive also had that in mind as well but I forgot to include in the introduction. Again, thaxs and keep your ideas coming.

Well i got given the standard colours (the ones recommended in codex) so i used them but changed them...
Basically the cloth was painted chaos black, gone over with scab red and then highlighted with red gore.... Whereas the armour was vermin brown, gone over with a mix of vermin and vomit made to look uneven to mimick sand tones, then using a fine brush i drybrushed some vermin brown onto the armour to further tone it a bit like camoflauge. Camoflauging battlesuits looks really cool too...

Ok but what about the firearm? do you also apply the same colors from which you used to apply on the armor?

Yes but if u look at the front of the codex, mainly the first fw u see his gun has black on the bottom half, so thats how i did it. As i didnt like a purely desert gun cos then it looks less like a gun.
Basically with black it looks more defined as a piece of weaponry... Another point is to do with the hammerhead railgun, i always do it in black like broadsides and it makes it look so much better...

Thaxs for the email Rjay. Im assuming youre a experience painter, if you spraypaint your model first then start putting your base, then go over with another color but you dont like the looks of it, would it be possible to go over it once its completely dry or its permanent?

Ive been paintin Tau since they came out...
On the goin over bit.... it is possible to go over it but i suggest u to try an avoid this cos if there r too many layers the paint begins to crack and it looks really shabby. I would suggest testing the colours on some spare bits like test the cloth bit with some of the spare legs from the fw sets as well as the spare guns... See im a bit of a perfectionist (and one hell of an artist - i know im cocky!) so wanted them to look exactly how i wanted. The only problem is testin the armour colour but this can be done in small parrts on legs also as well as some battlesuit weapons or spare helmets if u used a head not helmet with FWs... That way u should know wot they will hopefully look like and if u dont like it then tinker with it abit till ur happy! Another thing i steer away from with Tau is to much shade as in my opinnion they r a clean crisp army so u d not want to break uniformly colours with excessive shading Hope this helps!

At your local Gw store, do they give free painting lessons like the Gw I rarely go to? and do you get to choose a basic, common model (Fire warrior) or they choose for you (Space Marine)
