Default Help painting marble

I want my Grey Knights to have temple bases where the floor is made of green marble. Does anyone have any ideas on how to paint marble?

The bases look like this:

im not sure but you could try like a light lime colour and then a dark green colour to put on lines like marble then coat in gloss varnish to make it shiny

There was a great tutorial on marble somewhere, but I can't find it right now :-\ I'll keep looking, but someone else probably has it as well.

If you give me some time I have a really good tutorial on painting marble. It's probably the same one Muffinator is talking about.

You could always use this. It may not look like perfect marble but i'm sure it is an easier and more eficient way to paint lots of bases.

I paint marble in the most practical way. Paint the floor the main color you want. Put on some watered-down white, and daub most of it off with paper towel. Once that's dry, do the same with black. When THAT's dry, do it AGAIN only with the original color.

Marble isn't really too tough. I suggest that you go to your local decorating center and get a faux finishing brochure on marbilization. Follow their steps. Essentailly they will be:

1) Base coat the floor in the main color of the marble. Allow to dry.

2) Mix 1 part acrylic paint (lighter than the original color...or mix 1 part of the base color to 4 parts white) to 4 parts medium (Elmer's white glue works well) and apply with a sponge. Sea
sponges work well. Be sure to turn the sponge to ensure a random texture. Allow to dry.

3) With a fine brush or goosefeather (the feather works better) create veins in the marble with white or an off white. These should be random. Alternate how much of the edge of the goosefeather is applied at a time. Allow to dry.

4) Flick with a very dark color (black for gray marble, a very dark green for green marble, or brown for white marble). Literally take a brush and flick the bristles with your finger so that SMALL droplets of paint break up the overall scheme. Alternatively, use a fine tipped brush and place the droplets by yourself.

5) Finish with a clear floor wax. If you want to go nuts, sand with 1500 grit paper, remove dust with tack cloth and repeat until you have a perfectly smooth & shiny finish. I've seen a guy who can get his faux marble to look just like real marble.

The most important thing is to practice beforehand. So grab a piece of cardboard and mess around before you try your floor.

Hope this helps!

If you don't want to buy all that specialized equipment, just gather all information you can, and do the things that the most say to do.

@@F_E: HOW DID YOU KNOW THAT???
