Default Smooth white in 2 easy coats

So, as the title says.

I was messing around with my GW paints tonight and trying to figure out how to make a decent, smooth, non-patchy white with a minimum of effort. A brainwave of randomness (or lateral thinking) hit me. 'ardcoat is smooth, so what if we mix it with white.

So, I got my mini, basecoated the white area 50/50 Space Wolves Grey/Skull white. (got this tip from the April WD)
Next, the optional bit, thin Shadow Grey 50/50 with water and apply it very carefully to any recesses.
Finally, mix a batch of 50/50 Skull White/'ardcoat. Add a tiny amount of water, and then paint it on, beware that it dries quite fast though.

And there you have it, smooth white (with a slight sheen, depending on the amount of 'ardcoat used ) in 2 coats, with an optional detail wash.

Hope this helped, and I'll post some, hopefully, clear pictures of the finished result tomorrow.

or alternatively you could thin your paints put on a layer of shadow grey and then a layer of spacewolves grey and then a layer of skull white. You may leave the recesses filled with shadow grey for shading.

Thats how I manage anyway.

Rapouc, I do thin my paints, but white is a royal pita to get nice and smooth, so I was looking for a shortcut

And credit should go to my brother for the inspiration, as when I showed him my vespid he commented that the white didn't look consistent with the other colours as it was patchy and they were smooth. So my mind went smooth, white, smooth, white; 'ardcoat is smooth, so what happens if we mix it.

The pics (not as clear as I had hoped)

hate starting off shadow grey. i usually put down a basecoat of space wolves grey with a touch of shadow grey for choice, and work up from there

or, if you just want a flat white section over a black undercoat, paint the area in fortress grey, then paint white on over the top of that
