Default painting dark angels green

I have read a lot of peoples posts that say " how do i paint dark angels?" etc...
and so i decided to make a tutorial ;D
this is my first so bear with me as it may not be too good, at least I'm trying, I'm sure I'll improve one day

anyway enough said lets start
I started with a black undercoat as this is better than white, because if you miss a space it looks like a shadow
also i made the model in separate parts the arms, the head, the sholderpads and the back pack separately as this make it easier to paint the body
Arms

Body

Backs

Shoulder Pads

anyway for the next bit the bit you have all been waiting for I tried something new layering
this is when you basecoat the model then water down all the paints more than normal so that they are semi transparent so that the colour before it shows threw
this means that you can shade and highlight much more smoothly as it goes up in stages

the colours i used are Snot green and dark angels green and then for the middle colour i used a 1:1 mix of both
i added a bought 1 part paint : 3 parts water or more
heres the finished result on the green

The contrast of highlighted and non highlighted

there will be more to come and i will fill in the gaps from basecoat to finished green but I haven't had much time today

Time for the next part ;D
now i ran out of models and only had heads so i shall use them
i have done three different ways to paint the green
You can pick the one you like at the end

first way is the head on the left
Second way is the head in the middle
third way is the head on the end

the first way is the darkest
the second way the lightest
and the third way the middle

Colours needed
Black sprap paint or black paint to undercoat
Dark angels green
Snot green
goblin green
black ink
matte varnish

now start with a black undercoat

then next on the first model overbrush dark angels green on and on the other 2 water down dark angels green like normal and paint it over the head
If you don't know what overbrushing is then it is when you take a huge brush and like dry brushing you work the paint over the model BUT you don't wipe of all the paint only some of it

Now do another overbrush over the first model in Snot green
for the other to models layer snot green and darkangels green 1:1 but add water i don't know how much experiment

Now dry brush the first helmet with goblin green now this may seem too bright but wait
for the other two start layering on snot green with water do this until it is snot green on all the edges of the armour

For the next part of the tutorial you need to mix black ink with matte varnish and water until there is more grey colour than black with the water the reason it is mixed with matte varnish is because the inks dry shiny and space marines aren't shiny are they? and the matte varnish just stops the shine

let the ink dry and tadaa a finished helmet

i prefer the third helmet
the first one should look darker but i didn't have any goblin green so i used scopion green and snot green 1:1
hope i have made you all slightly wiser M@tt
