My tau army is City based so alot of greys and blacks.

any idea what collors to paint my kroot?

I'd say primer black, heavy drybrush grey then highlight the muscles heavilt in codex and then a light drybrish of 50/50 codex grey to white.

paint the quills bone or brown to keep them neutral and paint the Eyes bright green for contrast and do the beak in solit codex grey w/ te 50/50 highlights quite heavy.

that sould do you, and do adjust it to your own liking.
