Default Fire Warrior Shas'ui WIP (Updated: Big pics towards the end)

Ok, I started painting this little dude today..... Spent about 6 hours on him so far. He's about 80% done (his backpack, gun/arm and bonding knife are all 30%+ completed) and I've been trying out battle damage painting on him. I also attempted blending on the gun drone controller but that didn't work at all, so I did layered stages of dark -> light instead.

Here he is in his current state of completion with the other models in the squad I've finished:

Constructive crit on the shas'ui is welcomed (the other models were paint scheme tests and I'm not going to bother improving those unless I really have nothing better to do) plus any tips on better weathering/battle damage.

*edit* Oh, and the optics are not done yet as I have yet to order the paints I need for them

Cheers

That weathering is great! How did you do it?

It looks pretty fine to me, but in the closer shots the white looks a little chunky. Could be the pictures, though.

Well, Bullet holes I used the tip of my modelling knife and twisted it around to make a cone shaped hole (not too deep mind you), then painted it black, followed by bolt gun metal, followed by a wash (10:1:1:3 water:boltgun:red gore:vomit brown - just using what I got ya know ) over the top to make it look like rust. The wear on the edges of the armour is done the same way.... black patch, then boltgun then the wash. The blood spatter was done using 3:1 water:red gore, loading up a paintbrush, then flicking it against my pallette (an old tile) with the model standing on the tile.

The mud was 4:2:1 water:vermin brown:scorched brown then applied thickly to areas that would be in contact with the ground (feet, knee pads etc. etc)

The white is a bit thick, it doesnt seem to water down to well for me.

I'm re-uploading the pics though, at a better quality as imagecave screwed these up

That's really good, I love the battle damage and the sept colours and such are very precicely painted; good job!

Cheers, spacmarine2000

A Cannon Powershot S50. Unfortunately, the pics I have taken there are VERY scaled down in both size and quality, they start off at something like 2600x1900 pixels (something similar, in 4:3 ratio), but I use windows photo viewer to resize them, then imagecave does a number on the quality

I do have a better one (well, they're both my dad's) 'cept I haven't read the manual on it and it's not particularly intuitive, so I can't set it to adapt to tungsten light etc. etc.

And thanks for all the nice comments guys

Ok, here is the BASICALLY finished article.

I am waiting on the paints for the lenses, and some codex grey for highlighting the black, which should come tomorrow (good ol' next day delivery) and I just need to go over the bonding knife (it's not really a knife is it :S ) again to make it look better

anyways, here are some REALLY big pics hopefully getting much more detail in:

Enjoy

Looks great! There's some battle damage on the right shoulder pad that doesn't seem quite right...I think there's not enough boltgun metal. But that's just on that one patch - it really is quite well done. My only pet peeve is that the paint is a little thick, try thinning out your paints (more so if you already do) to get a smoother effect.

I am so trying out some battle damage now.
