Default painting tanks and other questions

HI

As I have found out, painting tanks can be...a little more than easy, but then I remembered my airbrush! I was just wondering if and airbrush is worht using.

My second question is about paint, painting with GW paints has its advantages, especially for the apinting guides and stuff, but it turns out to be quite and expensive product. Does anyone knwo of any alternatvies that are better or the same?
help appreciated'

instead of using Games Workshop paints you could try Vallejo Paints...
or as a last resort Model Master Acrylics or Testors (*shivers*)

Oh and another thing when u want to buy an airbrush think of the power source (air compressors) too.
I have alot of friends that bought airbrushes blindly and didn't think of a compressor :S

I painted by tanks with spray cans of Tamiya Paint. I wish I had an airbrush, It would have been better. Check out my thread " I Need Help Painting German Abush Pattern on IG Tanks. I can give you step by step instructions if that is the look you are going for.

It depends on two things:

How good you are at airbrushing
and
What you want it to look like

I personally suck at airbrushing, spraypainting, etc. But if you already own one, and are proficient at it, go ahead and use it.

If you are going for the hastily aplied camo look, airbrushing works really well. But if you want tons of little details, sometimes just regular painting works better.
Look here http://us.games-workshop.com/games/4...p2/default.htm its pretty good advice.

And about the paint, GW isn't that expensive (unless you're painting a Titan, or using on CoD.) A lot goes a long way, I can usually paint about 1000 pts. with one paint pot.
For terrain though, just use cheap acrylic.

I agree with vanderbleek, you can apply the base coat with an airbrush or spray, but for detail work you will need a brush. Washing and drybrushing work well on tanks. Small details like exhaust, handles, vents, and even treads need to be brushed. Spraying will give you a good base to work from, especially on large flat surfaces.
