Default How in the hell do you highlight Space Marine Shoulder pads?!

Alright, I just spent 5-6 hours painting my Space Marine Commander, and found out that I didnt like the end product. I tried highlighting but it sure as hell didnt work to good and it botched the entire model :'(

Any way, I was gunna ask what to highlight Catachan Green with, and the stickied topic was suprisingly about Catachan Green. I tried the white and found that it looked to....pastel type color. I dunno how to explain it, but it looks bad :P

So on to my question in which this whole topic is about:

How do you highlight Space Marine Shoulder pads?? I want mine black, but when I highlight the rest of the model, they just look...flat :-\ I can highlight the raised areas easy enough, its the lower part where you put squad markings etc. It wouldnt be a problem but its black!!! how do you highlight a flat, black surface???

All help is appreciated!! I wanna get this model done in time for the Golden Goblin painting competition in January :P Its being held at the West Edmonton Mall Games Workshop. I know its a long ways away, but my schedule its pretty busy.

Thanks for any and all advice!

Ender

bad...naughty execution...*smack*

a thin line of shadow grey in the upwards raised corner, as well as on the the highest point of the shoulder pad against the kinda rim thingy

but don't drybrush whatever you do, unless you drybrushed the whole model. in fact, drybrushing is only really a technique that i'd recommend for tabletop minis or things like nids or fur cloaks

Hmmm I'm pretty sure if you checked out CMON or another website you could find tutorials for it :P.

P.S. Awesome name Orson Scott Card is an awesome writer.

thanx guys! Hopefully I've soaked him in bake fluid long enough for the paint to come off. I'll start working on him again tonight, and hopefully I can get some pictures up next weekend. Maybe even this weekend if I stay focused and ignore the urge to go out and party :P

I hate working nights!

PS Yes, Orson Scott Card is a wonderful righter, but George R. R Martin is ... well ... just amazing. The Song of Ice and Fire series is great! I can't stop reading it and theres still one book left!!

Bah. Asimov is the grandfather of them all. Originality wins here.

[ON TOPIC/] On pads, usually create a thin line of black, grey or other dark paint to create a thin line between the ceramite upraised and not parts.
