Default Study Break, Night Goblin Hero

Hey everybody,

I got bored of working on a stack of papers for my university classes, so I started working on a little gobbo that I picked up a while ago. Only a couple hours in, I'm really surprised how quick he's come along. The armor has been fun to do differently (blended up, inked, blended some more, Jakob Neilsen style) and the skin turned out better than I thought at first. The color didn't look good at all until it was finished.

Generally speaking, he's my Jakob Neilsen ripoff project. I've always loved the guy's work, and now I'm pretty much blatantly gonna rip off his Night Goblin color scheme ;D

The cloth, swords and base aren't even started yet, I want to find my black ink before I do the blades. I hate losing things > Hopefully I'll find a couple more hours to finish him up before the week's over. I still can't get over how fast this guy came along compared to super-clean Tau figures.

Thanks ;D He's come along quite a bit since the photos were taken, but sadly my internet connection at my house has been down the last couple of days. Right now I'm posting from a computer lab at the university.

Anyway, the black is now done, the base is now done, the gold areas just need an ink wash and they too will be done. All that's left to do is the swords, the skulls on his belt, and the mushrooms by his foot. Probably an hour or two and he'll be done.

That'll probably clock the project in at about 5-6 hours total. Really small timeframe for me, but then again he's tiny and full of metallic areas. I'm doing the whole drybrush first, then blend hilights, ink wash, rehilight, etc. in true Jakob Neilsen style, but it's actually way faster than blending up with a bunch of layered hilights, like I do on everything else.

I'm thinking about auctioning the guy off in support of Penny Arcade's Child's Play charity. I have to get in contact with Mike or Jerry (Gabe and Tycho) to see how that'll work out, but I think it's a cool way for me to contribute when I can't simply do the cash/credit card thing.

Thanks ;D I also have the Goblin with a sword and the moon-shaped shield raised above his head. Skarsnik and Gobbla too. I'll probably paint those in the next month or two and wiull hopefully be able to make a few bucks by auctioning them off as well. That's not something I normally do, but I really just wanted to paint these guys for fun and have no good reason to hold on to them in my collection. If I can get some more spending money along the way, or contribute to the charity that I've wanted to support for the last couple years, then that's just a bonus!

Since I only work 4-5 months a year as a student, it's also a nice way to finance future hobby expenses. Forgeworld addictions aren't cheap ya know

Hooray, internet connection came back this morning while I was trying to finish the first draft of an English paper. Maybe not the best timing, but I'll take it ;D
