Default How to paint models Sa'Cea style

Has anyone else noticed that the paint scheme the codex uses for the Sa'Cea sept are actually much brighter in real life than what it shows in the pictures. Does anyone know how to make it look like it does in the book? I cant figure it out.

I base them with chaos black and paint the armor with shadow grey. I finish with a drybrush of Space wolfes grey. Careful with the drybrushing though as its a fine line between nice and ugly.

The result will look like this:

As you can see the color isn't as dark as in the codex. Maybe mix it with regal blue or something?

I've tried to mix it with regal blue but for some reason it really changes the overall scheme of it. It looks like plain blue instead of blue grey. What's odd though is that the darker of the two colors used for their armor is brighter than the codex pictures when suppossedly mixed with the brighter color.

hiya,

i have found before that if i undercoat with black, then midcoat with somthing licke scorchared brown or vermin brown the i can change theboveral tone. If i do black, scorched, vermin then my sept colors each in thin layers (2/3 coats each) then it produce a realllly nice smooth finnish. Prehaps, rather than going from the black to you final color, use and darker intermediancy colors, maybe one of the browns, of a dark blue, and see if that solves the problem.

I hope this helps

^licks^
