Default tau painting help

greetings gentlemen,

i have bought a plether of tau figures and in the process of finishing the assembly.
Now on to part 2, the painting. If anyone here has played half-life 2, and remember the combine "super" trooper, thats the paintjob im looking to do.
White prim, black secoundary, and red detail.

Now it comes to my question, i want the small crevests to be black, between the armor, gun grooves, etc. I care barely paint as it is, and inking has proven difficult (not to mention messy). So i was thinking when i prim my figures i should use a chaos black instead of a white primer, it would solve the problem of the small grooves but im wondering if it would create an entire new one altogether, the color it would come out to. Have any you guys tried a black primer w/ white painted over? How it come out? Many thanks!

to put simply not easy, you need a bascoat grey over the black then another lighter grey and then finally white ;D

I've had white come out fine over black, but it takes many coats. Otherwise, try black>snakebite leather>bleached bone>white

bullshit. Just use chaos black undercoat (hand painted is how i do it, but for lots of models decently soon, you'll want to do a spray...) and skull white as your paint... then, paint on a thin layer, which, when painted even and light, should appear gray. keep doing this, paying more attention to the raised parts, and you'll have a shaded whatever that is your wanted color.. er, shade.

I have done white on black for my brothers 'nids. It took 4 layers of paint. I would have done white base then covered with black. To do the white armor with the black detail you have to ink. Just thin it down and use a thin brush. Touch the brush to the panel lines and let capillary effect pull the paint through the lines. Let the ink dry. Then touch up where there is any overflow. As I said before, a friend of mine made a Star Wars themed T'au army. With white armor and all. That is what he did and it came out awsome.
