Hello everyone, I'm back and I have been painting (a little) lately ;D
I've got some good work done on my first battlesuit for the army, and with luck he'll be done on time for a painting contest Monday. Might be interesting given my work schedule though : ![]() Anyhoo, he's a Forgeworld kinda guy, XV81 if I'm not mistaken. Pretty cool looking kit, I really prefer just about anything to the standard jetpack layout of the XV8's. The pose took forever to get just right, very Anime style with the lunging pose inches off the ground. He'll be laid out almost parallel to the ground, pinned into some Urban Basing Kit bit until I can get my hands on some Micro Art Studio bases. The conversion on the model isn't too huge, the codpiece is taken from the Stealth Suit sprue, I'm only putting one shoulder pad on them anyway to show off the cloth and tie them into Fire Warriors better. Expect this on all my suits, I really don't like the diaper style crotch much at all. The chest piece has some Shas'El Tael style bitties off the plastic burst cannon, his weapon-less arm has a carved up Target Lock to fill the hole, and the airbursting fragmentation launcher was added to the twin plasma rifle forearm from the Forgeworld Commander. Not too much work there, just some cutting and filing. Might need a pin at some stage though, it obviously didn't stay attached for long! Oh, there is a set of IG binoculars with a tiny bit of putty to fill in the cracks underneath the frag launcher as well. Extra sensors for the AI, which will hopefully translate into better scatter dice rolls... So anyway, I hope you like him so far. The main colors are mostly blocked out, so just expect 3-4 hilights on everything plus the odd bit of detail work. The casing of the targeter on his left arm might be green instead of Shadow Grey when I'm done, if you could weigh in your opinions on that I would really appreciate it! |

Very smooth, to make it look better you should add highlights. Otherwise he is perfect.
Well done (so far!)

Well obviously he's just got the basecoat, and a tiny bit of shading on the green bits. As I'm typing the first of three hilights on the grey is getting pretty close to done... still a ways to go yet but I'm liking it so far!
BTW Khaki for the helmet sound like a plan? I want that to be the color of the "barcode" style markings on the army, so maybe for Suits and Squad leaders that would be a decent way to do it. |

Still in need of more hilights in some areas of the armor, all the black, and the incessant touchups. Vallejo paints and resin models rub off easy enough on their own, combining them doesn't help ;D
Pose isn't 100% final, there's no glue on one side of the pin in his foot. The base might not be permanent, so I'm keeping it removable for now. At least he balances! I do like the colors a lot on the base though. Makes me wonder if skipping the Micro Arts bases would be a good call... certainly it'll save me $150 or so by the end of my army. So he obviously didn't get done in time for the contest... I hate entering old "off the shelf" figures but at least I got first for both. BTW you guys rock, on Warseer I literally got "your paint is waaaaaaay to thick" for my only reply. Nice to see a bit more of a response! Any comments on the conversion though? Overall I was pretty impressed with how my ideas translated onto the model. |

Really nice color harmony and I like the subtle conversion bits. It is the same technique I am using on my newer suits.
The only thing I would add is some markings. The suit looks a little bare without some stripes, unit markings or something similar. Keep up the great work.
