I'm going to re-paint my entire Tau army, their current scheme is just a slight variation on the codex scheme and I consider it to be neither original or striking. Below is a half done tester that I did just now, I'm quite happy with it and there's a strong possiblity that it will become the face of my re-vamped army.
I'd just like some tips on how to highlight this colour effectively (It's a mix of 70:30 Midnight Blue: Mythril Silver) and also if the grey or black cloth will look better. Any other suggestions are welcome. Oh and if you're wondering what happened to his head.. I had some left over Green Stuff once and decided to give him a full head of hair. It didn't work too well :P ![]() ![]()

looks a tad splochy, and it deffinatly need some better highlighting. If you want a metallic color armor you can just drybrush some 2:1 MS to MB on it. I think that would look good.
Also, since the armour is darker, i would advise in a lighter cloth. maybe start with fortress grey and highlight up to skull white? PS: I like the hair, =P |

I have an idea...don't know if it will work, but you can try:
paint the armour with Boltgun Metal, highlight it with Mithril Silver, then paint it with [glow=blue,2,300]Blue Ink[/glow] About the cloth i'd suggest a light colour, maybe Fortress Grey.

Okay I've done another one. This time it's a slightly darker blue mix, and the cloth is codex grey drybrushed with skull white. I'm really happy with it. All I need now is suggestions on what colour to do the helmet lens, and the grenade.
Why do cameras show up all the mistakes which are invisible to the naked eye? ![]() ![]()

Before continuing there's something you MUST keep in mind. Your camera, however nice, does not seem to be focusing on the entire model. Try some slightly different settings/distances and zooms for taking your pictures. On all of them I can seem where it's quite clear (the focal point) and it starts to blur slightly at the other ranges which makes the model look worse than it really is.
Keeping that in mind I think your models look GREAT so far! Where it's razor sharp the effect you've got going even in those lighting conditions from the first one looks good and shiny. When you want to highlight try tints of the same color. If you're not sure then just use something like a slightly-tinged white. For a downright creepy effect try some very dark grey drybrushed VERY lightly at the edges. It'll tend to make the metal shininess seem to come OUT of the model. It can take a little practice to do right but after a few (always biasing to too little than too much...ALWAYS) you'll see what I'm talking about. I don't use this personally but I had a friend that did this with a purple and black Eldar army which looked positively EVIL. Something that would probably help out with your models' appearance and presentation is using a highlight color. Like, on my guys I've got dark green cloth and silvery/grey armor but I'm using blue for highlights. One kneepad line, optics, lights, little things. A highlighting color adds dynamism to your models and makes them all look a little unique (which is good). Personally I'd use a lime green for your optics and highlighting but I like the way that lime and blue look. Go with your first impulse.

I think the pictures are fine.
Nice color scheme I like it - not too flashy (like half the Tau schemes I see...eugh) nice and subtle, although metallic. Lenses can maybe be a lighter blue, a green, or even black.

I think that red or light green lenses could be nice.
