I don't know if this is the right forum, so I'll hope you excuse me =)
Here:
http://www.specialist-games.com/asse...TauCPFleet.pdf
you'll find a new Tau fleet for BattleFleet Gothic.
It seems to be the one you'd find in Imperial Armour III: Taros Campaign
I wait for the list since Armada, hoping it's better than one in Armada.
I'm feeling a bit disappointed: do you know why? I go to explain:
Fluff: Thumbs up! Very good explaining of Tau Spacefare History.
Fleet:
  • Good news - We can mix the Fleet.
  • Good news - We have an example of a Tau Fleet Commander.
  • Good news - Now the Capital Ships (Custodian and Explorer) has the Targeting System of the Defender limited only to it.
  • Good news - Now we have the FireWarriors: no more half Strengh in boarding assault.
  • Bad news - We can't teleport, yet.
  • Bad news - We can't assault: Manta rules is still in action.
Capital Ship - Custodian
  • Good news - Speed bost:+5 cm!
  • Good news - 3 Shields!
  • Good news - Armor 5+ everywhere
  • Good news - Front Battery STR 8 (L/R 4/4)
  • Good news - Front Lance STR 2 (L/R 1/1)
  • Bad news - Only 2 squadrons for side
  • Bad news - Only 4 turrets (but with rerolls...)
  • Bad news - Gravitic Hooks only for Warden (new escort, see later)
  • Bad news - Only 10 Hits
  • Bad news - The cost
Overall: Better than Explorer MK XXIII, but not than MK XXIV IMHO. The Lance is almost useless, and the cost... Why have I to buy one for my fleet when I can have an Explorer XXIV for 80 points less? Using this list even the Explorer has the Advanced Tracking...
Cruiser Ship - Protector
  • Good news - Front Battery STR 8 (L/R 2/2 LFR 2)
  • Bad news - Front Lance STR 2 (L/R 1/1)
  • Bad news - Only 6 Hits
  • Bad news - The cost
Overall: A crap, IMNSHO. For 10 points more than an Hero, it offer too little.
Cruiser Ship - Emissary
  • Good news - Speed boost: +5 cm!
  • Good news - Gravitic Launcher STR 3
  • Bad news - Only 4 Hits
  • Bad news - The cost
Overall: Another failure, IMHO. For 15 points more than a Merchant, it hasn't the carrier variant. It can have 2 more hits for +15 points (like the normal Merchant).
Escort Ship - Castellan
  • Good news - Speed boost: +5 cm!
  • Good news - Turn boost: +45°!
  • Good news - Front Lance STR 1
  • Good news - Can intermix with other escorts
  • Bad news - Only 1 Turret
  • Bad news - Front Battery STR 1
  • Bad news - If employed in Mix Fleet its number must be less than Defender number (or vice versa)
Overall: I have to see it in action. Maybe the 10 more points is worth. The ship is more manoeuvreable with a 90° turn and 25 cm speed.
Escort Ship - Warden
  • Good news - Speed boost: +5 cm!
  • Bad news - Cannot intermix
  • Bad news - You must have gravitic hooks that are used only for Warden squadrons
  • Bad news - If employed in Mix Fleet its number must be less than Orca number (Orca not employable in new fleet)
Overall: The speed boost is costed 5 more points. I continue to prefer Orca.
Last comment: I continue to prefer the old list. In the new one, ships is costing too much for what they have to done. For me, only the Castellan model is worth a think or two. Fleet rules is good: finally we haven't to fear too much boarding.

I'll wait for comments from other Admirals.

Oka,y looks good.* Keeps with the idea that Tau prefer long range tactics over close engagments.* Also helps so that when they do get close they don't suffer from the assualts.* Keeping at range in BFG is very hard to do, specially with teh way the weapons work on Tau ships.

Not really all that bad of news.* Two squadrons a side is about norm in BFG with only the Stynx really having more.* Four turrets is not bad.* Average for a cruiser is two turrets, average for a Battleship is four so this keeps in range with other ships in the game.* Ten hits again is not bad.* Bit weaker than Imperial ships of the same class but the Tau are suppose to be very new in this aspect of warfare.

Overall: A c**p, IMNSHO. For 10 points more than an Hero, it offer too little.
Front battery is actaully better than the average battery for a cruiser which is usually 6.* Lance again is average for a cruiser(2) as is the number of hits it can take(6).* So for a cruiser it might actually be worth the points depending on what those actually are.

I was under the impression this was a support ship, something like the Necrons Shroud class of cruiser.* In this it's got more advantage in being on the field than being in the battle.

* Okay, again this is sounding like an average escort.* 25cm is a respectable speed as is 90 degree turns.* Only the Eldar actually do better.* Strength 1 forward lance is average for a escort if it mounts such a weapon at all. Intermixing of escorts has been something you could always do so I don't see why that would be exciting.* Strength of one for a batter is a bit weak but not by that much.

I have to agree with you on this one.* Looking at what your saying all I can think is WTF?

Only thing I ahve to say is that you ahve to rember that for the most part FW rules only can be used by consent or if there is a okay for the equipment from the GWSpecialist side of things.* Till then the 'counts as' is still in effect.* Still all ina ll these seem to be basicly modified versions of Imperial vessels.

It's worth pointing out that 6 isn't the average number of hits for a Cruiser, 8 is. 6 is below-average, used by Light Cruisers, or Eldar Cruisers.

How about throwing in some play lists for the Tau? at 1000, at 1500. I am starting up BFG and looking to start a Tau Fleet.
