Before I begin I should probably outline what ships I have or will soon have (Blue ones are the ones I'm waiting on);

Despoiler
Desolator
2 Repulsive
Styx
Archeron
Hades
3 Murder
2 Carnage
2 Slaughter
2 Devastation
9 infidel
8 iconoclast
6 Idolator
Ramilies Starfort

Now this is obviously a very large and unwieldy fleet and will rarely be used in it's complete form, me and Delthan hope to eventually have a massive game at some distant point though once he gets a large enough fleet, but I was just wondering if anyone can see any ship combos or pairings that would be good in smaller scale battles (1000-2000). My main opponent will play mixed Tau but there will also be ad-mech and marine fleets to contend with.
I know many chaos ships can operate alone but are there any that could do with support and if so, what is the best ship to provide it.

Desolator
2x Devastation
2x Carnage

or

2x Devastation

Thanks for the replies guys.
I tend to go carrier heavy (quarter to half my points spent on them and I'm yet to play a battle without the Devastations) so the Styx will definitely make an appearance. It's cost is high though compared to the number of guns it has so would it do well against the admech and their increased turret value? Or am I better off with something else for those battles?
Thank you for those groupings Horizon, they look strong, will have to test them out as soon as I can.
Out of curiosity; solely on their own strengths, would you rate the desolator higher than the despoiler?

Yes. Me like Desolator, Me dislike Despoiler.

any particular reason? I've always seen the despoiler to be the more powerful of the two myself but am open to other views

Desolator has same speed as rest of fleet. It fits perfect to the Carnage-Devastation Core as it can give cover with 4 lances @ 60cm as the Carnages slip into the lower ranges. Lances from Devastation add perfectly as well.

The Despoiler is superceded by the effectivity of 2 Devastations. The 4 prow lances of the Despoiler are better to be replaced with torps.
