I was wondering this. Most people hate all the new characters that have arrived in Sonic, wishing it had stayed with just Sonic, Tails and Knuckles... or even just Sonic and Tails. I have left Metal Sonic off the list as he's been in it a long time.

I really like a good chunk of the new characters, I've voted for Jet but I really like Shadow and Silver too. I'm a big Sonic fan, even now, and I'll happily defend him against anyone. I was meaning to do a run-down of my views on his new games anyway, but I'll save that 'til some people have seen this and just add it in here.

Sonic's always had a cool range of characters... if you look at the UK comics, at least.

Sonic The Comic included Johnny Lightfoot, Porker Lewis, Techno the Canary, Shortfuse the Cybernik, Grimer and so forth. All of which are miles better than the shit the 'new' Sonic team came up with.


I can't stand any of the new characters (ie: everything after S&K). I can't even stand Sonic anymore, now that he transforms into a 'were-hog'.

Yes, the comics had a far superior range of characters. Shortfuse the Cybernik and Doctor Zachary being my favourites, but that doesn't mean that all the new characters are bad.

I know I said I'd defend his recent games, but I can't defend Unleashed yet... I've not played it. I must agree that the "werehog" bollocks there repulses me, and it's probably the biggest blow my love of Sonic has ever received.

Gawd... Sonic The Comic... that takes me back a while. I recall also having some novels and even Choose You Own Adventure books.

To be honest, I lost interest once Sonic hit 3D, until Sonic Heroes came out, and I was sorely disappointed with the gameplay in that one. The characters were just the icing on the proverbial cake and I didn't feel any kind of kinship with them, like I did the old cast.

I'm not gonna lie, the werehog thing is stupid. And I had tortured myself by playing the Wii version at that, which makes you actually swing your freaking arms to attack and climb.

I really don't know why they did that, and it's never even really explained. Everyone starts acting strange at nightfall, but no one else turns into a werebeast! Sonic is the only one. It makes no sense and the gameplay wasn't even all that great, it felt to me like they were just trying to rip off God of War, especially with his stretchy arms (it's like "Well, we can't strap chains with blades on them to his arms so we'll just make them stretchy to mimic the gameplay as closely as possible") and the upgrades he earns on the PS2/Wii version by collecting Dark Gaia's "force" from slain enemies. I don't know why they'd want to add God of War style beat-em-up gameplay to a Sonic game, it makes just about as much sense as Devil May Cry style gunplay, but whatever. I ended up getting over it after a while...unlike Shadow the Hedgehog (WHAT A ****LOAD OF ASS).

In my opinion the BIGGEST blow is strapping a freaking sword to his arm. I do not look forward to Black Knight at all.

Anyway, Unleashed wasn't that bad, the day stages were fun and challenging (and had sidescrolling elements even), and the dialogue in this game didn't have me slapping my face with my palm every two seconds. I even found a couple parts slightly humorous.

As for my favorite new character...I liked Shadow in Sonic Adventure 2. He had a great voice actor and he made the story kinda interesting. He also ends up doing the right thing in the end and teams up with Sonic for one of the most epic final battles in a Sonic game ever. But I think it should have ended there, Shadow probably should've never come back...and if he did then he needed to be a friend and aid Sonic instead of a retard with amnesia and a gun fetish. Not to mention the story in Shadow the Hedgehog was damn wretched, and as one game reviewer put it, "about as appropriate as a special episode of Sesame Street dealing with Elmo's heroin addiction".

I don't know enough about Silver or Blaze, not having played Sonic 06 or whatever game Blaze was in before that, but Silver actually sounds kind of annoying. I just don't like him that much from what I have seen.

I hated everything after Sonic 3 & Knuckles (when you combined them into one big game). Shadow has always annoyed me because he's basically just reusing the knuckles character, but now knuckles is a good guy...

I used to read the comic also, and I used to have the chose you advenutre books (the first two anyway) The first was annoying though, you needed the damn gold cable to win D:.

Did you see the spoof of that when it came out? They call Sonic in and tell him hes fired because hes not in with the kids anymore (showing him pictures of emo's) then show him shadow as the new updated him.

Oh that damned gold cable... I remember that one... :

And yeah, I'd agree with you; Sonic 3 & Knuckles was the last great Sonic game in my opinion...
