Default Warmachine

This is the caster I'm currently using -

Not mine, I've not painted mine yet.

I use two of these as well:

And some mercenary troops.

A 500pt game is about the equivelent to a 1500 40k, and can take a mere 30 minutes to hour and a half.

Its much more aggressive than warhammer, you're encouraged to play with balls and take the fight to the enemy rather than hang back and play defensively.

I highly recommend getting into it, its loads of fun.

Its does seems like it would be. For lack of a better reference, it almost seems like the game of paintball. I played it years ago and I hated it because everyone would hide behind rocks and take pop shots at their enemies. (Warhammer 40K)
I always wanted to charge in, dodging paintballs, and go for their throats. Yes I got pelted hard a few times, but it was loads of fun.

War Machine seems like the same sort of thing.

I'm curious about it, playing as Menoth. I like their fluff.

Yeah, my problem was that the "play with balls" line makes me think of 133tZ0rz. Talking to people who play the game regularly(or used to), I get the idea that everything hinges on one or two rolls, and if you fail them, you may as well pack up and walk.

I'll try it with someone else's army before I commit, but I prefer more intricate games that are more forgiving to those of us who do not roll well. Even 40k can adjust for crappy dice(if it didn't, I'd never win a game).

My problem is that they have Russians, and every game with Russians makes me wanna play them, even if they suck.

Not quite, but a game can end on a single action - you pull off (as I have) that insane, goddamn stupid charge through half an army to stick your sword down the throat of their caster and you either screw up and lose, or succeed epically and win.

Its a lot of fun, you really have to be reckless.

Games that end like that usually mean you have enough time for a rematch - we've had 3-4 games in the same time as it took two people to play 1500pts of 40k.

Interesting Fact - I used to be dead against this game, and a die hard 40k fanboy til I played a few games and loved it

I like to keep an open mind toward Warmachine. I've heard many good things and although I don't know a lot about the game, I think I'd enjoy at least taking it out for a test drive.

I picked up Prime Remix a while back... I still need a playgroup, but I really enjoy what I've seen so far.

Personally I'm not dead against Warmachine, but its deffinitely not my thing. You can be agressive and have a lot of fun doing that sort of thing in 40k as well and I find Warmachine to be... boring. Not a lot happens thats interresting, and most of the games I've seen were just a rather pointless slug fest where both sides just smack into each other and hit each other over the head till one side gets the upper hand. Sometimes something would happen where say one Warjack would bust through and smack down the opponents caster early on but really IMO thats boring.

The best thing about it seems to be the smaller number of models and the shorter time the game takes to play and also a lack of need for codexies and what not. But I just find the system too limiting and the games far too similar from game to game to keep me interrested for any length of time.

Personally I'm not sure I like how everyone praises it's speed. Most of my Magic games at the one tournament I ever attended only lasted maybe 5 minutes and I wouldn't say that was a good thing, either. $15 to get in, an entire day wasted, and all I ever did was stand around and wait for the next round. :-\

I still doubt I'll ever play since the CMG aspects really don't appeal to me at all. The way people talk about casters just reminds me too much of the second turn win in MTG. The models aren't as good either, it's a lot of hit and miss it seems...some are nice and the rest are damn ugly. Though with some of GW's recent releases (warhounds)...

What does a 500 point army look like? How much would it cost?
