Default Paintball: First timer tips?

Tomorrow's gonna be my first experience in playing paintball. Could any people who've played it before here give me some pointers?

Like what to wear and such...

And what would bruise you less... :P

Gloves. I've only played once, but I took a hit to the hand which would have split my knucle open had I not had gloves on.

Other than that, overalls that don't matter about getting dirty, and obviously facegear.

As I said to a mate when we all went paintballing - you will get hurt, you will get shot. Accept this, and you'll have a lot more fun.

And don't worry! Its a hell of a laugh. Just cos you take a round to the face, does not mean you can't have fun

Yeah, you will get hit. Accept that, and it won't be so much of a shock. You see, my first time, I froze up after being pelted twice in the face, so they kept shooting me.

Don't waste your ammo, but don't not shoot. If your out of ammo, but still have CO2 or air, keep shooting. The other team don't know your out, and you can suppress em!

lol, thanks.

And what kind of gloves would you recommend? We only have well... those work gloves...

Make sure you know left from right. >.> I have this nasty tendency to point right and say left when I'm under fire. So much so, now my friends just go where I point...

Those are .68 caliber paintballs. They're gonna hurt if they hit you. So don't let them hit you. 128 fps and they're that blinking huge means you ought to be able to dodge them. Unless of course, you have the reflexes of a blind tortoise, and no grasshopper, slow and steady won't win the race. =P

Don't know about gloves. I got a paintball square on my thumb, palm side and nothing happened. Hurt like hell (it was like, 40 degrees out with a wind chill a couple days after a storm) but there was no bleeding or nothin'. In fact, I hurt my hand when I dove for cover later that day, instead of from paintballs.

Always be alert. I remember once on an "escort" mission, I was walking back with my bud and the escortee? and I was like "hey, brandon, I think that guy is still behind that tree." "What guy?" *guy pops up and shoots us* "Him." Quite hilarious.

Lastly, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BUDDY. You two are to stick together like glue! That way, you can always rely on covering fire, suppressive fire, and someone to just watch your back. (Maybe later I'll regal you with the story when my best friend and I took the center flag with less than 30 paintballs between the two of us and no reloads. )

Hope that helps you some. If I remember anymore, I'll edit this post. Or post later.

Edit - Gex, an empty paintball gun that's shooting C02 has a distinctly different sound from one shooting paintballs. A newbie may not know the difference, but everyone else will.

Oh another thought: Don't play "realistic." Or sneaky. Umps seem not to like that. >.>?

Edit 2- I wore jeans, boots, tshirt, overshirt, and an army issue winter coat. Didn't really feel all of the paintballs that hit me either. I had about 4 hits that I knew about, and after counting my jacket, I had about 12 total. =P It was a good game.

Edit 3- Work with your team. May be a bunch of strangers, but they're most likely experienced.

Lastly (I think) apply squad based tactics. Shoot and scoot and covering fire and all that. Don't buy paint grenades, they're useless (as far as I know.)

ENJOY THE GAME!!! That's always important.

Edit 4- Complete the objectives. It's all fine and dandy to increase your kill count, but it means nothing if the game is lost because the other guys held more territory or what have you.

Edit 5- Think like the enemy. What would you do in their shoes? What would you do in response? Stuff like that. If you think about it, you'll appear combat experienced when you're not.

Yeah, I know about the distinct sound, but admist the din of everyone else shooting, all they see is the small just of CO2 from the end of my barrel, aimed at them...

And 128 FPS? Dude, you're lucky! I used to play 300 FPS, and in my new inside joint we use 230 FPS. Those ones are the bruisers!

And yeah, any gloves will do. The gloves job is to break the impact, and take some of the force (less bruising and jamming that way) and also helps with gripping the gun itself.

I think in the US, the regulation speed is 128 fps, unless you're on a Rogue field; but if you're playing on a Rogue field, don't expect much regulating.

It's like this:
Regulation field is like a good clean fun server with admins that rape hackers on sight.

Rogue Fields is every man for himself. Get ready to squeal little piggy.

Oh, thanks for the explanation.

But still... 128 FPS won't give you much range... I know a few places near me that do 400 FPS, and keep in mind, 500 FPS and above are considered real fire arms!

128 FPS may not give you much range, but personally, I don't want range anyway. It rather forces groups to close in and have some FIERCE CQB, the stuff that makes you shake and cackle like a mad man later, once the game ends that it.

Course, the lack of range did ruin some of my perfect flanking maneuvers. Spend 10 minutes working my squad into place, only to find that once we get there, we can barely hit them. Was perfect too, had one section laying down covering fire; another section that had to run across the bridge and force a landing (they got pinned for awhile); and then the last group hanging around to reinforce whoever.

What kind of field is this? Is it predominantly speedball or is it woodsball?

Well the 230 FPS place I go to is an urban indoor place (Designed by the guy who made the sets for black hawk down!).

The 400 FPS is a D-day simulation field, which also has a castle set up, and they are making a farm place too.
