They're both completely different things, filling completely different niches in the market.
Neither outdoes the other, though the 360, like the PS3, is much more technologically able than the Wii, with an extremely different selection of games. Comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges. |

The 360's strengths are in gaming, both online and offline, so if you want FPS's or RPG style games, then the 360(or PS3) is for you. The wii's strengths lie in its fun aspect. Anyone can get on a Wii, and have a lot of fun playing with friends. You have an innovative control method, and many variations using it like Wii Fit and the fishing rod. Its more family centric than gamer centric - from a gamer point of view, many of the games are very similar with the same characters, but if you want a fun time with some mates, they are great. I can't tell you how much fun me and mates have had, having a few drinks and playing Wii bowling.

I bought a Wii in January (or February? Gah, little details, it doesn't matter) '07 and played it for a bit. At first, it was amazing fun. Wii Sports is a great game (although why they felt obliged to royally screw up 'baseball' I have no idea) that is loads of fun, and never gets old. Golf and Bowling were my favorites, although I played boxing quite a bit too (although I found that boxing sometimes got quite frustrating, when it didn't do what you wanted.)
However, that (was) one of the Wii's only strength. I don't know about now, but when I had my Wii in January/February/March (I sold it in March) there were absolutely no good games out except for Wii Sports. While the Wii was a good idea, most, if not all of the games I have played for it completely misused the whole concept. I don't get how jiggling the controller back and forth sideways should make me punch in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance? If anything, it made the controls more confusing, not less so. As mentioned earlier, comparing the two systems is not very easy to do. They have different purposes, and I know people who love the Wii and hate the 360. However, in my personal opinion, I find that the Wii was a great concept that still has some promise, but the games just took the complete wrong path and tried to turn it into what it isn't - a powergaming device. The games for the Wii need to be simple, fun games, and even Mario Party is turning into a complex, competitive game nowadays. Even Zelda: Twilight Princess I felt was a repetitive, overly complicated let-down. The Wii in a nutshell, for me, is a system that will seem like the greatest thing on Planet Earth for the first week you have it, and after that you'll be utterly unimpressed and let down. I'd like to emphasize once again that these are my opinions. You don't have to agree, it's just how I feel. As for the 360, I got it, and love it. I am more of a FPS, RPG, and Sports game kind of guy, and the 360 fills my every need. With great online play, a comfortable controller layout (PS2 feels like I'm holding a brick now) and games like Gears of War (it had to be said ), it is just an amazing system that is affordable, yet extremely powerful.I strongly recommend the 360.

I think the Wii is only good for parties, really good when drunk but your not pissed over eveytime you play are ya? So i recomend a 360. Do not trust these things that all xbox's break, it is the origanals launch consoles that do it ost of the time, not the 99.99% people proclaim on some forums...

Another thing to note (and this is only really important to techies), the wii is only really a slightly upgraded gamecube with added abilities (the wiimote being the most obvious). Whereas the 360, even with the problems that it has had, is still a full upgrade over the original xbox.
Basically if you are buying a Wii you are doing it for one of two reasons. 1- You are a very social person, and will have people over on a regular basis to play. 2- You follow the herd... the wii is uber popular, therefore it must be good. For pure gaming go with the 360, for occasional fun stay with the wii.

I can't say much that hasn't been said already.
However, I have both systems, and the 360 sees much, much more use. I can't have friends over often, and the wiis online... sucks... No talking, to real friends list or things of that matter wth overly-complex 'friends codes' to remember, where as xbox live is great! Some of the more annoying times on wii include the 'land the arplane that is spnning out of control!" in blazing angles, which really let the game down for me as I can't finish it without cheats. But then again, COD3 was rather fun (If short and no multplayer, grr!) with the aiming your own rifle, and the paddling the boat across the river. The wii has a lot of promise, but it hasn't been fully used yet.

Oh, and online play is free on the PS3.
