I don't know if any of you remember this version of the B5 game that came out in the late 90s, but i love it and we have a group that still plays it.
It is very much a skirmish version of the game (unlike B5-a call to arms which is more like BFG) best played when each player has 3-5 ships. and is more complicated like classic battletech. I play narns and have 1 of every ship in thier fleet save the police cutter. this game we chose a chance encouter scenerio, war of retribution era(second season in the tv series) between a narn scout element and a centauri patrol. points-roughly 1,800 narn side- .sho'kar scout/elint ship .thentus frigate .var'nic long range detroyer centari side- .altairan destroy .X2 demos heavy warship(vorchan variants) Turn 1 the field was heavy with asteroids and other space debris(gotta make it interesting with manuevers). my scout slowed to use asteroids as cover while my cruiser and frigate turned into the centauri forces. thanks to range and some heavy use of ECM by both sides round one was basically bloodless- Turn 2 ![]() both sides accelerated to close the range. my scout ship went all ahead full to try and hop to another asteroid/ice field for cover. he didn't quite make it, but it turns out the centauri focused thier fire on my heaviest, and closest vessel(var'nic). both the var'nic and a demos came out of this engagement with some minor damge. Turn 3. ![]() with all the big guns re-charging the narns did a hard turn to stay within the protective evelope of the scouts ECM bubble while adding thier own capabilities to the defence. the centari closed and did some serious damege to the var'nics right side with a few lucky hits. did some moderate damag ein return to the wounded demos. Turn 4 ![]() with both sides still recharging main guns this round was more of a pop-gun engagement. the sho'kar exposed itself and took the brunt of the return fire, nearly loosing its entire right side. Turn 5....which apparently i forgot to take a pic of, was a bit of a furball. With all the main weapons re-charged on both sides and the short range the exchange was fast and brutal. the thentus made a snap turn(being an agile ship) and the varnic slowed and turned giving them both good shots on the altarian. the centauri mainly focused on the sho'kar trying desperately to remove its ECM capabilities fromt he field. the end result left the sho'kar heavily damaged to the rear, the thentus took minor damage and did the port side of the var'nic. in retunr the altairan was crippled loosing it's entire front end(and most of its weapons) and taking some intenal damage to engines. the damaged demo's was also crippled loosing it's front and all of its guns. This turn came out to be decisive for the narns. Turn 6 ![]() the sho'kar attempted to evade and barely missed a ram attempt by the damaged demos, giving it a few parting pop gun shots for its troubles. the thentus was recharging its main guns and remained out of the battle. the var'nic however brought its pulse cannon(doing max damage ) and torpedo launcher to bear....tearing the rear off the altairan destroyer. and doing minor damage to the second demos. Turn 7 ![]() the damaged altairan and demos broke combat and made a run for it(well the altaran had little choice since i blew out its engines-no maneuvering, and most of its thrusters to boot). The demos scored good hits on the sho'kar, tearing off its aft and destroying it's engines as well. taking a few pop-gun shots from the var'nic to the rear. Turn 8 ![]() With 2 narn cruisers recharged and ready for battle the remaining centari demos ran for it scoring a moral victory by forcing the sho'kar to be abandoned as it was drifting straight into an asteroid field at some considerable speed. End of game results- the narn losses- .1 sho'kar scout ship lost .var'nic-moderate damage .thentus-minor damage The centauri side- 1 demos moderately damged 1 demos crippled(heavy damage) 1 altairan destroyer-severely crippled, basically a drifting hulk Minor victory for the narns The narns went into this engagemnt with about a 200 point disadvantage. the true saving grace was the scouts elint(ECM/ECCM) capabilities which freed up narn fire control on the other ships to focus all thier abilites on targeting, and thus hitting the centauri when it counted

I have to wonder how I missed that! I was and am a huge fan of the B5 series. I own all 5 seasons on DVD and most of the movies (although I never managed to watch Crusade), but somehow I have never heard of the miniatures game until now.

Our home. |
