Default Fallout 3 predictions

I decided to right down some personal predictions of the upcoming release of batesdas Fallout 3 based on how Oblivion was played. Unfortunately I haven't had chance to read any rumours from anywhere, so this is just an educated guess on what we will be seeing.

Of course, feel free to make some more predictions with me - but for goodness sake, do not start saying stuff such as "they should have this..." or anything else which resembles a wish list. Theres LOADS of things I want fallout 3 to have - but theres no basis for it.

Anyways - I'll have a go at some basics.

Skills Now, the major part of any elder scrolls game is a plethora of skills. And knowing batesda, fallout 3 will be no exception. I'm expecting something along the lines of what we have with oblivion - not wholly acuraccy (but seeing as fallout in the past has involved ungodly amounts of firepower I doubt shooting will be down to the players skill entirely. perhaps dampening recoil?) but the damage generated by the guns. For example, a rusty iron long sword in Oblivion can do more damage than a steel mace if the player has more skill and training in the blade ability despite the fact that the sword is of lower quality material (lowest qulaity in fact).

This can be translated into fallout by simply dividing the weapons in the game in a similar way - after all, there is 4 different types of weapons available in oblvion (blade, blunt, hand-to-hand and marksmanship) and there are different types of weapons available in the previous gmaes of fallout - namely small guns, big guns, energy weapons, melee weapons and unarmed. Things can be carried over fairly easily and just applied to what ever bathesda wants. The player specialises in one or two and leaves the others for later on in the game or for a different time. And there won't be that much of a balance issue either - a guy with an assault rifle will be putting out masses of accurate fire, reloading faster, pullig of critical hits more often and being able to move the weapon around the screen far better than if he had an RPG if hte big guns and small guns were of equal level. However, if he used the RPG he would be expecting far more damage per shot than the assault rifle with a blast radius.

It will be each to their own and everyone will find something that they will be proficient with. Although I have no idea about scoping or what have you - we'll have to wait and see I suppose.

As for the other skills there are already many present in oblivion that are just renamed in fallout - mercantile becomes barter, armourer becomes repair, alchemy becomes science, lockpick could be computer and the armour skills can simply be carried over and be re-used to define the armour in fallout - leather as light, metal for heavy up to power armour and telsa. As for the magic skills I have no idea - maybe we'll see some psychic powers ?? Or maybe they will be replaced by some of the other skills in fallout such as gambling and outdoorsman? Or replaced by special skills that seem like magic but are stuff such as extra adrenaline or pain reducing implants in the armour working like magic in oblivion but have a more scientific explanation to how they work.

Enchanting A favourite thing for many oblivion players is enchanting your weapons and armour with various ablities and attribute boosters. This is a simple thing really - armour upgrades (night vision?? Over shields? Cloaking devices? Hell maybe even giger counters or radar!) that boost people attributes could be bionic limbs or stimulants and weapon upgrades can be seen as ammo changes and sight upgrades (laser sights and scopes?). It sounds nice and easy to do. Whats even better is that given that they might be upgrades we could end up with changing the physical armour in game making them really customised. But If I keep going on this subject I'll enter the realm of fantasy. Let me be the lead designer of Fallout 3 bathesda!! I will make it the RPG to end all RPGs!!

Character Something that is of great importance to me in any RPG is the character you play - from my little goth gal in mass effect to my sexy, seductive dark elf in Oblivion I spend ages maknig my character just the way I want it. And I hope that bathesda continue what they had in oblivion - virtually limitless faces and being able to create anything that I want! And I can't see why they shouldn't, what they have in Oblivion is marvelous.

Anyways, what new stuff do we get in Fallout. Well, I have two predictions as far as races are concerned. The first is a rather glum one as far as I am concerned - you are forced to play a human. Why? well, for starters in all of the fallout gmaes you play as a human from beggining to end. And then theres the fact that you always seem to be they guy at the centre of the crisis of the settlement / vault. And since they have never focused on the ghoul or raider locations they may not end breaking the cycle. However, with the inclusion of other races into the eastern brother hood of steel in fallout tactics leads me to my second assumption that is far more pleasing - choose from the many races in the fallout world. Big mutants, raiders, vault dwellers, ghouls, all available for the player to choose from (however, female big mutants may cause a problem, and I don't think that female ghouls will be any different to their male counterparts!) and maybe aliens, robots and deathclaws thrown into the mix to spice things up. And then things will just follow on from there in a similar way to oblivion.

But what about star signs? Hmmm.... maybe they will be something along the lines of history like mass effect (it's undeniable that mass effect is a big contender to anything released on the 360 as far as RPGs are concerned). For example, choosing a human grants you the basic stats. However, after that you are presented your history prior to being in jail (come on!! It's bathesda. Of course your guy is gonig to be some sort of convict!) such as raider, tribal, vault dweller, BoS member and so on. That gives you the bonuses to your attributes (such as a vault dweller or BoS member having higher intelligence compared to the tribesman or raider). And I can see similar things to the ghouls or mutants.

They maybe minor stuff that harkons back to oblivion. There maybe a slight chance of nude female chest as Bathesda lost the courage to do so at the last minute when Oblivion was reaching it's final stages. And maybe we'll get some in depth characte development on the rest of the body as fable 2 is getting released this spring and if the previous gmae is anythnig to go by then the character development will be fantastic and should have bathesda fairly worried.

And possibly online mode aswell - a department of bathesda (or maybe bathesda itself, or whoever owns bathesda) bought the ability/right to release an online RPG a while back. So this could be implemented into Fallout 3 (seeing as the only claim to fame the apparant oblivion killer two worlds had was online capability bathesda could be caught up in an arms race) or maybe even a world of Cyrodil!

[hr]

Anyways - this has taken around an hour to right so please read throughly and contribute well.

Thanks for reading

Who says that it's going to be so similar to Oblivion, though? Granted, it's the same company, but...

The original Fallout games did things their own way. That was the beauty of them. What I can't wait to see in Fallout 3 is the wide variety of pop culture references; some hidden, some not. The Bridge of Death in FO2? The crashed Federation shuttle, complete with dead redshirts? How about the Special Edition Red Ryder BB gun?

As you said, customization of clothing/armor would be a very welcome addition to the game, but most games don't allow for that. Weapon upgrades are almost certain because they played a heavy roll in FO2. And if the .337 Pistol doesn't make an appearance... I'm going to die. I tailored my favorite FO2 character around that thing when I heard that it made the transition from original to sequel.

As far as my predictions go... It's going to be grimy, bloody, and funny. Actual roleplaying will be a major part of the game. (As in, conversations really do actually matter. You don't have to kill everyone.) The world will be large. I have no idea how the combat system is going to work, though I'm guessing it will be something along the lines of the Deus Ex series as far as the shooting skill goes.

Bethesda, Silk, I thought you of all people would know that.

As for me, I honestly don't know all that much about it to make my own assumptions.

I do really hope they stick to the style, humor and awesomeness of the previous Fallout games. And yes, that includes the top-down view. It wouldn't be the same for me if it was First Person...

I actually just reordered the Fallout game pack, so I can brush up before 3 comes out.

Well, then I've got bad news for you... Fallout 3 is completely first-person. I would've preferred some sort of completely adjustable camera like in the Neverwinter Nights franchise, but really, it's not that big of a deal for me. As long as the feel of the game is the same, I'm in.

Yeah - like smell the ashes said it's going to be first person in the same way as Olivion, the few screenies that Ive managed to see prove it. Along with some funky HUD. However, you can always try third person - you won't hit anything but it looks cool!

And there was a fallout 3 released in the same vein as fallout 1 and 2 - but it never got released. I can't remember why - it was either becasue black isle went bust (thank you very much F:BoS >) or they just simply didn't release it.

Either way it looked awesome and It's a damn shame it never came to light.

Yeah, I remember seeing it. Was in full 3d, but still used the top-down view. Saw some screens, and then never heard from it again.

Can't wait for Fallout 3! It's on my list of games to get, and a game made by Bethesda is mostly a game worth while.
