Default Anyone play Flames of War?

Reason I'm asking is that I'm thinking about getting into the game, and I was wondering some things. First of all, is the game system drastically different from 40k? As in, is it very confusing moving over from 40k(still going to play 40k!) and Mordhiem? Second, would you recomend USSR or the USA for a beginning player? The whole reason behind that is we are already going to have a German player(armored) and I like the History with the USA and the USSR(in fact, in Axis and Allies the board game, those are my favorite countries).

Any insite would be greatly appreaciated!

Well, you're in...not really luck, but something like that, 'cause you have me!

I've been trying to get into it for a while now with the Ostfront supplement. Basically, Flames of War is a WW2 game that works on supplement books, all of which have differing armies and units, with a few extras thrown in there for goodm easure (ie, Infantry don't really change, so Rifle Teams are a great thing to get for all editions).

As for the game system, I have never really played the game but evolving from 40k I don't believe it would take too long for you to really learn the game, depending on how much you already know the rules and etc. So far the movement system is basically the same for vehicles and infantry, meaning that Infantry move 6" and tanks 12".

The "lucky" part is that it is almost as expensive as 40k, so it takes a long time to save up and buy units. Although to be fair about it there are quite few units you can use in multiple supplements (aforementioned rifle teams), some tanks, and etc.

Personally, I am starting with the USSR but if you want to start with a more elite army I would suggest you go for the U.S.A., Although in this game a few lucky rolls will decimate your army.
