Default Initiative on Mega Armour

I was thinking- what's the point of Meganobs having I3 when they have Power Klaws as standard?

They do it that way just to list the Nob's stats, no other reason. Even when certain wargear is standard kit they'll usually list your base stats, not stats as modified by wargear. Just their standardization I guess.

Not to mention that things other than order of close combat attacks are dependent on Initiative and thus will work off of their standard Initiative and not their modified one. This is important for, amongst other things, Sweeping Advances and Jaws of the World Wolf.

Also, technically, they could choose to attack in melee using their Twin-linked/Kombi- Shootas and would thus attack at their regular Initiative and Strength value.

It's early, I wasn't even thinking of sweeping advances and such, very true.

A kombi-shoota is not a close combat weapon. Wouldn't matter anyway even if it was, you aren't allowed to choose your attacks like that unless both are special weapons, IE: a PK and a burna, just as an example. They did away with that choice in 5th, see pg. 42 A normal and special weapon.

A Pulse Rifle isnt a CC weapon, but the Tau still club people with them if they feel the need to defend themselves.

They have a Powerclaw and another hand and 2 feet. Thats 3 other non Powerclaw things to hit someone with, not counting heads, teeth, tusks and other, smaller orks.

A kombi-shoota is not a close combat weapon.
Page 42 of the rulebook, under "Normal Close Combat Weapons" states "Weapons like chainswords, rifle butts, combat blades, bayonets, etc. do not confer any particular bonus to the model using them." If a Guardsman can use his Lasgun's butt as a normal close combat weapon then why can't a MegaNob use the butt of his TL Shoota?

Ah, but that section is titled "Fighting with Two Single-Handed Weapons" and does specifically state that "if a model is using a two-handed close combat weapon (such as a rifle's butt or a two-handed battle axe), it may not use it together with another weapon." A TL/Kombi-Shoota is not specified to be a single-handed weapon and thus would not fall under that category, surely.

In 4th edition is was extremely clear, "Models with special close combat attacks can choose not to use them and attack normally instead." One might be able to make a case for that same allowance in 5th, can't say I'm up for a RAW debate, but 5th lacks that clearly defined statement.
