Default Is this legal?

I'm not sure whether this is allowed in tournaments or anything, I'd imagine its fine for friendlies but I just wanted to know the official viewpoint.
I have about 10 nobz in my army, they're all about the size of terminators and meganobz so I gave them the 40mm bases despite them coming with the 25mm ones.
Is there some official ruling against this or does it not matter.

Cheers, Cammerz

They're supposed to be on the base size they came with and putting them on a larger or smaller base is illegal. As you said, with friends it's one thing but it wouldn't be allowed at tournaments.

However in 4th edition to put it on bigger base was allowed, but putting them on smaller base not.

Also Some older model have smaller base (eg old termies on 25mm) so it is legal for them to be on 25mm instead of 40mm since it's the base they came in with.

With prior warning and concent, bigger base could be allowed in 5th ed (I think there was something about it in the rulebook IIRC).

That was 4th ed bonegaurd. I distinctly remember it not being so in 5th.

I'm pretty sure it's there, maybe under scenic base or something.

In 4th edition for bigger base consent was not required.

In 5th edition, if your oponent agress it's ok, but conscent must be given beforehand.

I'm at work so I don't have my book, but I'll look it up tonight.

The old metal Killa Kanz originally come with 40mm but the newer metal one comes with 60mm, and the plastic ones definitely come with 60mm.

MCs are supposed to be on 60mm which makes the Daemon Princes and Avatar models being not on the right size bases to begin. So general these days, you can see them being mounted on larger bases to accommodate the rules. Of course, there are also the Forgeworld suits, and also some of the normal models having two different bases in their box . Sometimes the rules forces one to rip the models out of their own bases just because the rules say so (a pain for a lot of the Chaos players who uses the old Chaos termies).

But generally, it is accepted that the base that they come with are the ones you used them on until the ruls say otherwise to your precious models.

I have my rulebook resting in front of me and I was right, you can change the base size if your opponent agrees to it before the match.

5th edition rulebook
page 3
heading: Base
2nd paragraph

Quote:
Some players like to mount their model on impressive scenic bases. As mounting your models on different-sized bases might afect the way they interact with the rules, make sure before the game that your opponent does not mind this.
So most people would probably agree to bigger bases, they might disagree to smaller one though.

I agree. If you're fielding old Kans on 40mm bases where the new ones are on 60mm bases then you're probably fine, that's what they came with at the time. I've read nothing that says you have to mount the old Kan on a 60mm base since that's how they are now. Cases like this it's fine to have different bases. What would be frowned upon would be mounting the Kan on a 25mm base since it never came on that size (not that it would fit!). Agreement with friends would allow it there but you'd find tournament scenes probably wouldn't allow it. Likewise, if you mounted a Nob on a 60mm base then with friends you're fine but it probably wouldn't fly at a tournament.
