Default Orkz n00b

Hello. I'm a Tau player that has only interacted with the Tau Codex. But, I got the Assault on Black Reach set for christmas. I almost the Ork codex to see what kind of army I can make. I have decided to gather as many special characters of the Orks into WAAAGH! Uzteef (yes that is the name of my army). [glow=red,2,300]Can anyone help me?[/glow] I need at least 2000 points for da WAAAGH!

Sknaht,
Begel Dverl

The AoBR is the best start for an ork army, so good job. A good start to your WAAAGH is getting some more boyz and a couple of trukks. Get these core units and then expand with things like bikes, or suped-up nobz. Some other essential units you could get are some lootas or a battlewagon. ;D

The battleforce isn't a bad idea, it has a lot of great units, but you only save about ten dollars. It's still a good idea, you get a trukk, 12 boyz, and three bikes. If you've got some cash to spend, you could always spring for the megaforce, that pretty much the battleforce x3, you save a little more money too. But if you don't like bikers, you shouldnt get it, I believe it comes with nine. You can always get another AoBR, its always a great deal. Other than that, just buy the boxed sets.

It depends on what direction you want to take your army in. Generally, what you see is the green tide, speed freaks, or dakka horde.

Green tide focuses on using the cheapness and effectiveness of tons and tons of orks. In a 1500 point game you can easily field at least 100 orks, which is more than your average foe can deal with. Throw in a warboss, nobz, and some backup support (like deffkoptas or lootas) and you have a pretty destructive army.

With speed freaks, you mount all your mobs up in trukks and speed towards the enemy, getting in their face as fast as possible. You can use battlewagons to support your HQ choice, too. A good one for this army is a big mek. His force field will give everything 6" away a cover save, even through the hull of a vehicle if he's mounted in one. You can back up your trukks with bikers (preferably nob ones, but normal bikers can be deadly, too) and some deffkoptas you got in AoBR. ;D

The Dakka horde is a little more tricky. Here, you're taking using the ork's great guns and massive firepower to make up for their BS of 2. A shoota boy may seem bad, but an assault 2, str 4, 18" weapon will be supa killy with a few trukkfulls of them! Grotz are good for these lists, too. With BS 3, you can give them heavy support weapons, or mount them in killa kans with grotzookas. Lots of lootas are essential for this list, as it gives you plenty of anti-tank and anti-infantry support thanks to the high strength and long range. Your deffkoptas once again prove useful, being able to have twin-linked big shootas or rokkits, and the ability to outflank. Tankbustas are another option, but are tricky to use.

Here's my advice. I play a kind of mixed tide/speed freaks. I have a couple trukks and a battlewagon surge in ahead of my mobs of large boyz, supported by deffkoptas and bikes. It's good to start out with a balance and see what you like. I would say pick a direction and go with it, but don't start with the dakka horde. That takes more experience, and a lot of orks you wouldn't get as part of a core army. Really it all depends on your play style and what you want to do! ;D

If you want to do green tide, buy lots and lots of boyz and a box of nobs. This way you can have some nobs to accompany your warboss (with power klaws and a painboy, which didn't come with AoBR)
If you want to do speed freaks, buy battleforces. This gives you your boyz, trukks, AND bikes. You might also consider dropping $55 on a battlewagon, which are great for any list, really.
I would stay away from the dakka list for now. If you really want to get shooty down the line, buy more lootas and maybe some grot heavy weapons after establishing a core list. Remember though: boyz are the backbone of any army.

Hope this is of help, and good luck on your WAAAGH!!

It is Warpspiderman.

I really want it to look like all of the clans (death skulls, evil sunz, blood axes, etc.) just gathered in one massive WAAAGH!!! I also want it to look like they recruited all of the most shooty, fast, and ded-shooty Orks from across the galaxy (namely Zagstruk, Snikrot, Badrukk, mybe even Ghazghkull).

That's a good idea. You could paint your vehicles red for evil sunz, foot sloggers white and black for goffs, and shooty orks blue for death skulls. Kommandos w/ snikrot are a good idea, and would be cool painted up like blood axes. Zagstruck is another good disruptor unit like Snikrot, seeing as his boyz assault right out of deepstrike. He's a little riskier, though. I would hesitate to use both in the same army. More than two special characters (if any) in any army tends to be kind of a points sink. Really, you want to use ones that enhance your force.

Ghaz is a lot of points to be used in a combined force. His real strength is leading a massive foot-slogging army, and some of his abilities might be wasted in a army that also uses speed and dakka.

You don't see much of Badrukk and flash gitz: they're very expensive and it can be hard to make up their points. Plus you have to convert them yourself. They can be pretty effective, I just wouldn't start off using them. Although, I see you do have him bolded. You could put him and a unit of gitz in a battlewagon and use it as a firing platform to protect them. They are nobz, too, so they do well in close combat.

That was exactly what I was thinking Warpspiderman ;D!!!!!

I already started out paiting da boyz from AoBR with Evil Sunz colors to compliment my Salamanders army, so I might have them all mounted in some trukkz.

I was thinking about Ghazghkull...since it only takes 180 pts to field a full Slugga Boy Mob, that's 30 right there! I was thinking about Wazdakka, too. Maybe he can lead the fast-killy elements and Ghazghkull can lead the mass of infantry >.

I don't have the Codex, so I'm just throwing out Ideas from what I remeber reading it :P.

Yes, that's definitely possibly, if not a lot of points. Besides Snikrot, I've never fielded any ork special characters. I'd rather just spend the points on more boyz. You can get a good warboss with a PK and eavy armor about 90 points less than Ghazghkull, and a nob biker squad would do sufficiently without Wazdakka. If you really want to field loads of special characters, go for it. They're just expensive point-wise and money-wise.

If I can't use Ghazghkull, who else can I use besides Snikrot ???. I was thinking about using a Battlewagon for Fire Support and transport for my HQ, whoever that may be...

I also have a few questions about Orks Forces...

-How many points does a Stompa cost?
-What were Goff Rockers orignally used for?
and
-Why does Badrukk cost more than the other special squad leaders?
