Default Deff Dread costs so much....

Hey all, Just a little gripe here. I was thinking of getting a Ork Deff Dread and was shocked it cost the same as a battlewagon. Apart from using a SM Dreadnought what would be a cheap way of making one?

Well, the easiest way is to scratch build one using your bits. So your extra Grabba Arms from your trukks become Deff Dread arms, etc. It's really not too tough to do. I suppose you could use power klaw bits too. But if you get some plasticard, you should be able to work out some sort of kan type hull, attach some sentinal legs (which would make a good hull too) then bolt on some arms and dakka. Presto, Deff Dread.

I just used a spare dread from the assault on black reach box and stuck one of the ork trukk drivers on the front. A bit of imagination and you have a sentinel style deff dread!

I modified a Sentinel so make a Killa kan, I'm sure the process could be scaled up.

so what your saying is that oven cleaner can remove paint from plastic models? and after that, you take a toothbrush to your plastic model, and the paint just comes off?

I hear ya! They're a total rip-off dollar wise, and I don't think theyre even extremely useful in the game. Never-the-less, I converted one from AoBR dread and some trukk and battlewagon bitz. He turned out pretty sweet, or so I like to think. This is what I highly recommend doing.

I concur! It's a great model!
I'm also dismayed as to how much a GW Deffdread costs, and I must admit, BigToof (My Deffdread) was made from an AoBR Dread as well (I guess great minds do think alike ).
I have been also told by those who sent to the effort of working with the GW model, that they are a pain to put together, as it needs a LOT of filing (if you've ever put together a Killa Kan, imagine that, but on a much broader scale) and pinning...

Best,
-BT

Since I convert or scratchbuild almost everything, I was shocked when I looked at the GW site and searched for Orks to ask for for Christmas. I say do as many others have done and get an AOBR dread for $10-15, and go nuts with bitz and plasticard.

Same thing goes for kans. Just do the GW paint pot ones like I did. They were really easy to make, and cheap as hell.

I think I will do a AOBR one. But I want to check the size between a killa Kan and Dreadnought first. They way I loo,at it an battlewagon costs the same and I would rather have one of them then a deff dread lol
