Default How (not) to Convert an Ork Trukk

Kk, this conversion is done almost entirely from the Ork Trukk box set (as thatís the only Orky things I have), the exception being the gunnerís choppa, which could easily be replaced with a shoota, or proper choppa etcÖ

(1) Ok, the first and my favourite conversion is the gunner/wrecka ball turret. Where, on the instructions, it says to stick the turret together with the protrusion the wrecka ball will hang from to one side. Instead, rotate it so that the attachment bit sticks out to the front. Then, use a saw or serrated kitchen knife (guess which I used) to cut the gunnerís hand from the actual gun. The end where the trigger was should now sit nicely into the top of the wrecka ball hanging. Attach all the bits to the Big shoota.
The Gunnerís hand now looks odd, grasped around something non-existent, and so cut the handle off of any weapon and stick it to the top. I used two of the knives from the space marine tactical squad sprue stuck back-to-back. Then attach the arms to the body.

(2) I was not particularly keen on the Boarding planks, so I did not stick them on. I cut off the curved spikes from one of the boarding planks (they will be used later). I trimmed the protrusions at the hinges down, and stuck it to the back end of the Trukk as an exit gate for Da Boyz.

(3) To cover the empty gaps with, I started by taking the bar w/decoration from the cockpit. Having cut off the bent part and sanding it down, I then stuck it across the right-hand gap. Hint, if you canít make both ends stick or (like me) you sanded it too short, stick the edge of the troop compartment floor the inside of the armour plate, it holds it perfectly well. For the other side, use the step from the exhaust port side of the cockpit. Trim the ends of the spiky bits off, and keep them for step 4. Once again, stick the edge of the troop compartment section to the inside at the bottom.
(4) Take the two curved (or straight if you used the other boarding plank, although I think curved looks better) spikes cut off earlier from the boarding plank. Stick them to the outside of the ram, and they look like bullís horns. Take the small spiky bits cut off in step 3 and stick them to the top of the engine air intake thingyÖ

And - ta-da! Its finished!

How (Not) to Paint an Ork Trukk

Red bitz: cover in Mechrite Red. Paint around the edges with a 1:1 mix with blood red.
Orange bitz: Cover in blazing Orange. Highlight if wanted with sunburst yellow
Flamey bitz: Base in Blazing Orange. For the lighter parts, use a 1:1 mix with Sunburst Yellow.
Metal bitz: Cover in Boltgun metal. Dry brush over engine and exhausts with Tin Bitz.

It is a little difficult to tell what you have done from the pictures, willwills. Orks are great to convert, but oftentimes the more subtle conversions aren't as obvious. Your mind sort of registers them without really noticing what was done. It is usually enough that the Trukks all look different. I do like the turret conversion, though.

With Orks having such a wide range of customized options built right into many of the new kits, it is tougher nowadays to get attention with modifications. Looting other races vehicles helps. Use that damaged Piranha as a wheel run Warbuggy. Turn a wave serpent upside down and "Orkify" it with tracks and bits. It's almost tough to overdo it.

Nice Conversion. Have you thought about using one of the new washes (gryphonne sepia?) over the red paint? It will mute the brightness somewhat, but it will add depth ......
